Build opinions

Hey guys/gals, just thought I'd share the build I'm considering now and give everyone a chance to share any input they may have. I'd spent some time going around the whole turbo idea, but in the end it just seemed like a bad idea given all the data on people blowing lands on boost. I don't want to build my motor for boost, so in the end boost was out for me. Okay so without further ado here it is, my NA build:

I have JDM H22A 10.6:1 motor plan to do following:

Install Type-S Intake
Install Hytech replica header
Install test pipe in place of cat
Already have 2.5" mandrel bent cat-back exhaust installed
Install Xenocron chipped VTEC ECU with basemap
Dyno tune if needed
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While driving the car with that I will do the following...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buy second head
Already own second intake mani
Have a port and polish done
Buy Brian Crower stage 2 NA cams
Buy Brian Crower valve train
Put it all together (myself if possible)
Remove old head and install new one (replace timing belt at same time)
Have a full dyno tune done

Things I'm considering additionally (but haven't done enough research as to their benefit or lack of):

Higher output injectors
Larger throttle body
Higher output fuel pump
Skunk2 cam gears
Change head gasket thickness (supposedly changes compression?)

Please feel free to comment on this. Anything I'm not thinking of? This I need to do additionally? Something I'm doing which I shouldn't? Open to hearing everyone's thoughts on this.

That all sounds pretty good. I am in a somewhat similar place as you right now. I actually have pulled my head for a head gasket replacement. I have been thinking of doing similar head work as you are planning since I have the head off, but now I think I am just going to keep it as it is. I WAS planning on using the Supertech valvetrain components - everything minus cams as they don't offer them. I was just going to either keep my Type S cams or swap them out for some Blox Type B or Skunk2 Pro 1+ or Tuner 2 cams. Another option to increase your compression would be some of their higher compression valves. They supposedly increase your compression ration ~0.3 to 0.5.

As for the head gasket. I just got my Cometic 0.027" stock bore one in yesterday. It looks very nice. This is the thinnest one they make. As for any other reputable companies, I haven't found any that make a thinner-than-stock gasket. There are some on eBay, but I don't trust them. The stock gasket is 0.030" thick, so the slightly thinner Cometic one will probably not raise the compression too much. If you are having any work done on your head, the machine shop will likely put your head on a mill to ensure a smooth and flat mating surface. You can request that they take a little more than necessary off to increase your CR that way. That shouldn't increase the cost much if any at all.

Overall it sounds pretty good. I might suggest just an OEM Honda gasket, unless you don't mind spending the extra ~$40 for the Cometic one that won't add too much compression. If you do want a Cometic, I'd get it from Mike95Lude at Import Replacement Parts (Import Replacement Parts | Import Performance & OEM Parts). I think mine was $89. They also have great prices on OEM replacement parts, so if you order some more stuff (like your timing belt parts) to make the total over $100 you will get free shipping. Good luck with your build!

^ Thanks for the reply. I'm not rushing into this project so I have some time to get my mind wrapped around everything before doing it. I've started to consider the inverse with the head gasket however and running boost...lower the compression on the internals and run about 8 PSI on stock internals seems like it would be far safer? I guess I have plenty of research ahead of me...LOL...
