Well, I am getting closer and closer to the mark now. Last week we installed the new VIBRANT header and the new APEXi Gounding kit.
I went to SpeedQuest today and was thrilled with my results. We baselined only 3whp/0tq more than before(189/154) and then it was time to tune. After about 10 runs messing with the Air/Fuel ratio we hit an unexpected number. 196.12whp/160.20tq which was 3whp/3tq more than my goal for this phase of testing. To add to the mix, it was 95* in the shop when we were tuning, so there may even be more power than we saw on the dyno when its colder outside.
Next on the list is a BLACKTRAX Stage 3 intake manifold, which is a reworked stock H22 manifold with some major mods on it.(~$325). Also we're going to try an Accord TypeR crank pulley as it is lighter because of the lack of Power steering loop on it.
Stay tuned as I break the 200whp mark with a stock JDM bottom end and stock headwork!!!!!
Mind you that my header gains were OVER a Greddy SS Header as well. The Vibrant is supposedly mirrored off the MUGEN header and cost 1/2 as much. Putting a Vibrant on in lieu of a stock header should net you 10-12whp/5-7tq.
I hope you are all enjoying my DYNO Testing!!!
Well unfortunately the WHOLE computer for the Dyno is on the Fritz. I believe the correction was 1.02-1.03 on various runs. <<--Does that have to with with the temp/humidity? I assume so. The tuner is emailing me the info as we were unable to print it out. Does that answer your question?!? I hope.
A/F is at 13.0:1
As I have told many people, PEAK numbers are a stupid bragging number. I am more about the tuning aspect of it. I hope to have my Dyno chart up in a few days so everyone can see the nasty mid-range power this beast has.
I have anywhere from +2 to +7 fuel on the VAFC2. 1993 Prelude VTEC196whp/160tq ENGINE/TRANS
-JDM H22A-
Skunk2 Stage 1 Camshafts
Golden Eagle Cam Gears
BlackTrax Intake Manifold(To put me over the top!!!)
STR 70mm Throttle Body
Port Matched Intake Manifold
Greddy/AEM Intake
Vibrant Header
Greddy SP2 Exhaust
One6 Test Pipe
APEXi Grounding Kit
MSD Dig6
MSD Blaster Coil
AEM Fuel Rail
C&R Radiator & Fan
S2000 Oil Filter
B&M FPR
Mugen Thermostat & Fan switch
I have thought about it for a little bit. They ARE corrected numbers, so the temp/humidity doesn't matter.......If it was colder, the correction would go down? I think....... Sorry, I am just so excited about the power still!
I may even try the stage 2 skunks when I get my BTP manifold! No Crowers for me thanks! I don't want to be Victim #XXX! Another broken set of Crowers last weekend in my friends H22! Now I know why I dumped my Crower Rods! Not worth the risk, they obviously don't have their **** together!......Sorry, about my I Won't Use CROWER rant............
They are all TOP SECRET specs...... j/k
Sorry, I had to. I hate when people call everything a secret. It just tells me that they are lying. I will get the specs in a couple of days. Visually, when comparing it to the Greddy, it looked like comparing the Greddy to the Stock one.
Well, I am sure there are a few headers out there with a little more power.....FujiSubo, Mugen, ANR, RMF.....I am not sure. The bottom line is bang for the $$$ I guess. The Vibrant obviously puts Greddy to shame, and the next question would be how much more would you be willing to pay for a few more HP. I don't have comparison results, but I would take a very educated guess that any of the above mentioned would not produce much of a gain above the Vibrant.....I would love to see a Vibrant vs SMSP shootout more than anything. I have a weird feeling the results would be disturbing. Just my .02 though!
Suuposedly the Vibrant is mirrored off the MUGEN. But who knows?!?!
the vibrant is a mugen header w/ a larger collector.
great gains!
So the MUGEN does have a 60mm collector? 2.36 or whatever stupid Std crap?!
So maybe the Mugen wouldn't even be as good as this. Depressing for more than double the price.
I guess the only thing kind of holding things up is my exhaust. I have had some ideas of doing a Custom 2.5" with a nice Muffler and Resonator. The header goes into a 2.5" Test pipe right now. I may even entertain the idea of using a Hi-flo cat instead of the test pipe. After the BlackTrax intake manifold, the larger exhaust may be another step.
Where did you buy your Vibrant header from and do they make one for a 5th Gen SH? I'm very interested because I'm finally looking to get rid of my crappy DC Header. Going with a whole new set-up over the winter so I'm starting to look around for better quality parts now. Thanks for any information.

I am not sure where you can buy it online, but I am sure VIBRANT will sell to you direct. http://www.vibrantperformance.com
hope that helps! I think we can call this the BEST HEADER in the under $500 bracket!
Nice numbers Clint! You will like the Accord Euro-R pulley, I was checkin one out at Billy's(71dsp) a couple weeks ago, and it is significantly lighter(about a 3rd the weight by the highly unscientific "hold it in your hand" test) than the stocker. I assume you have removed your P/S and A/C? Those are make a bigger difference than most realize. When you do the IM would think about an S2k TB(68mm) and have BTP port match the IM for it.
I'm surprised to see you are adding fuel with the VAFC2, although your mods are alot more extreme than mine....I had to take a TON of fuel out(-22 at 7krpm) to get in the 13.2-13.5 range. Are you running cam gears with some overlap?
Oh, and I measured the ID on my Mugen collector before I installed it, its definetely not 2.5", but its more than 2.25", so the 2.36" sounds right.
would you be able to get horsepower out of this header bolting it to a 2.25 hi-flow cat and 2.25 exhaust system? Or are these to small to match the header??
