if you rub oil real heard,,and real hot,
it will, sometimes, though not always, break down.
probability that it will break down and thus
leaving a big screeching mark on your cylinder
wall is greater with the oil base that hasn't
been treated (thus natural) because of a more
simpler structure prone to react (breakdown)
down into less useful form.
imagine rubbing your elbow against a bowling
ball.. then imagine your elbow against a
bowling ball broken in half. louzy example?
at any rate, the bottom line is that you want
that ball to be made up of something sturdy
so that it won't break it in half and hurt
your elbow.

PS BTW, I think $20/oil change is better
tradeoff to make in the long run. I use
Mobile-1 15-50

I asked my honda dealer tech guy before about synthetics, and he told me a friend of his used to work at royal purple. He says their oil isnt very good according to the guy who worked there and that he would rather use Mobile 1. He could be bsing me, but hes always been really cool in the past and been straight up about stuff (like cheaper places to get stuff installed than the dealer). Just what i heard...
I have used 0w synth JUN/NEO oil several times and the stuff is incredible. But is it good for my engine? I used it specifically while racing on a closed track.
Right now I am using 10w-30 but I would like to switch to 5w if it will give me a quieter idle and quicker revs.
I don't see why i should pay 30 bucks for 6 quarts of Mobil One when i can get Castrol for half that price. You guys can say all you want about how great Mobil One is, but i know a lot of people who use Castrol for years and never have a problem.
As far as, going to dealerships to do oil changes, i did that once, but they did such a sh*tty job, i just do my own oil changes now.
And for the viscosity of oil, i asked about this before on the forum, and i choose to run 10w30 because it never gets under 20 degrees here in the Bay Area, this winter the lowest it's gone near where i live is 35 degrees..
Check your manual, it'll give you a diagram for the viscosity you should be using.
