Writeup: S2k seat install

Parts:
S2k seats with stock S2k brackets and sliders

Hardware Needed:
(x6) 7/16" -14 x 1.25 hex bolts
(x6) 7/16" lock nuts
(x2) 10mm x 1.25 x 1.25 bolts
(x4) 1/2" nuts
(x1) 3ft of 3/16" x 1.5 steel stock
(x6) stock mounting bolts
(x4) 7/16" washers

Tools:
dremel
drill and 7/16" and 10mm bits
jig saw / hack saw
wd40 (drill bit lube)
wrenches/sockets

Overview:
S2k seats sit ~ 2" lower then stock seats
to raise the seats use the steel stock to make six brackets

the smaller brackets are for the front mounts
the larger brackets are for the outer rear mounts

Bracket construction:
to construct the front brackets cut the steel to length (depends on desired seat height) and drill a lower 10mm (stock bolt diameter) hole
the upper hole needs to be offset from the lower an amount equal to the height u want to raise the front of the seat; this is a 7/16" hole

the rear bracket size will depend on the height of the seat
the higher it is, the shorter the rear bracket
follow the procedure for the fronts to fabricate the rears, drill two holes, 10mm and 7/16"

to help the drill do its dang dang use penetrating oil, or wd40
also progressivelly drill the holes from small to large to speed things up
i sanded and painted the brackets to prevent rust, thats your call if u want to do that

Install:
start with the rear inside mount
this is the only hole on the stock S2k brackets that will need to be enlargened

place a 1/2" nut (raises rear of seat) btwn the floor and the seat bracket, then a 10mm x 1.25 x 1.25 bolt with a washer through the top of the bracket

the outside rear mount is where the long bracket is used
align the floor’s mounting hole and the smaller bracket hole, then the larger hole with the S2k's bracket hole
secure the stock floor mount to the bracket with a stock bolt
place a 7/16 lock nut below the fabricated bracket, then a1/2" nut between the fabricated bracket and the S2k seat’s bracket, then a 10mm x 1.25 x 1.25 bolt with a washer through the top of the S2k bracket

the front brackets bolt up to the stock floor mounts using a stock bolt through the smaller diameter hole in the fabricated bracket
the fabricated bracket then bolts up to the seats bracket with a 7/16" -14 x 1.25 hex bolt and a 7/16 lock nut
driver side / pasenger side of drivers seat
the distance between the S2k front mounts is ~3/4" wider then the distance between the stock floor mounts, one of the fabricated front brackets needs to be angled to make up for the diffrence
also the angle of the S2k seat front mounts is lower then the stock floor mounts, the S2k brackets need to be bent down

finally connect the seat belt indicator plugs beneath the seat

Results:

better brackets could be made by bending the steel to raise the rear of the seat
u could also bend the front brackets to match the lower angle of the S2k mounts

comments, suggestions, and questions are welcome

This is really great man, lol. I couldnt install the S2000 seats to save my f*cking life about 6 months ago, sold them, and now I have my OEM black leather.

If I ever reconsider the seats though, Ill definitely use this write-up. Thanks man.

i have a question for you.

How close does the seat fit without modification, i am 6'4", so 2 inches of headroom would be nice. It looks close in the pics.

the mounting points are close
the hardest part is the front mounts
to make ne kind of bracket without raising the seat, your gonna have to move the mounting point for the seat forward to give yourself room to bolt up the S2k brackets

That's an interesting way to do the install...I bought MonStar's and did it a little differently. If you don't want to mess with adapters and have access to a welder or someone that can weld it for you the feet can be swapped for a drop-in install. If you compare the seats side-by-side you'll notice that 3 out of 4 "feet" are different. Remove the ones that are different from both the prelude and s2k seats by drilling the rivets then weld the prelude feet on the s2k rails. Bolt the seats in the car and call it a day...took me 2hrs total.

--Ian

EDIT: BTW, by not using adapters the seat sits as low as possible (the pan on the driver's seat is against the carpet when all the way back) and by a purely un-scientific guesstimate I'd say they're approx 1" lower than stock.

its like night and day going from stock fabric to these
the seat height is perfect with the front a little higher then the rear
the side bolsters are larger and stiffer then the ludes
i havent had a whole lot of driving time in them, but the overall shape seems to be much more snug, including lower back support

we thought of drilling the rivits as u said, but felt it would be eaiser to raise the seat by making brackets

yea the "bending" of the front of the s2k brackets doesn't really help my sense of security

oh and vacuum your car next time

but thanks for taking the time to do this, atleast we get a better idea of how they could be mounted... hopefully safer methods can be thought of

are welds safer then using bolts though?

i definetly agree there are better, safer ways to install, but this will get em in with tools u have in the garage and is relatively safe

As long as the welds were done properly I'd say that they're definitely more secure than an extra set of bolts w/ mild steel straps. When I attached the feet to the s2k rails I used rosette welds in the holes left from the rivets as well as welding each exposed side to the rail. IMHO it's more secure than the rivets on the stock setup.

Absolutely. No bend involved (and therefor no stressed/fatigued metal) and with proper penetration, the weld can be as stong or stronger than the single sheet in certain ways.
