Write Up: Installing JDMfog's & signals on mugen bumper
Was redoing my bumper, figured to snap some pics for the endless threads of "how do i mount signals / fogs to the mugen bumper." Not going to write much, so let the pictures be your guide.
First the contraption. Basically 2 brackets hold the signal to the fog. The one you see on the far right (curvy thing), and the other i'll point out 3 pics down. The L bracket in the middle attaches to the bumper (along with the dangly screw at the left). I used aluminum b/c it's pliable, but strong, and won't rust. The blue tape was just to cover the hole of the signal so debris doesn't get in.
The 2nd bracket holding the fog to the signal. The tip is showing in this pic, there's a closeup 2 pics down. JB welded (the black stuff) to the metal bracket of the fog, and just screwed into the plastic of the signal.
Front view of the two. 3m double sided tape for exterior surfaces (weatherproof) lines the crack between the two to hold the pieces together. The contraption is very sturdy and doesn't wiggle or anything.
Pics of the holes in the opening. 4 holes are made, 2 for the black bottom support tabs, and two screwholes up top.
Mounted in the bumper. The 2 black tabs from the fog support the bottom. The screw at right and another (the L bracket mentioned previously) support the top.
Made support mounts for the top middle. Not absolutely necessary (as the bumper fits pretty well), but it makes it more stable. And makes the bumper less steal-able. Just note to make sure the hood doesn't come in contact as it will chip your paint as the hood shakes (esp if you have a CF hood). Bracket is JB welded to the front support bar.
where was this when i did mine???????????????
you did a good job bro, i didnt even think to put the two together, mine move ever so slightly
mine are connected to the bumper like that seprately though
damn good job!!!!!
I wish i had a garage to do car stuff.. anyhow good write up!!

Man that is a great bumber and fitment you have there since the bottom piece is just like a mugen one, long and all the way back. miine is not even that long, I think your is like 3 times longer then mine. Great write up on this, it will help a lot of people out on this. I might have to redo mine we'll see how it goes with my turbo project. Might have to lose the fog if the pipe get in the way too much.
thepreludedude: Yes, it's a VIS bumper. It's their 2nd mold (the one in my sig is their first). Significant improvements in quality/thickness of fiberglass and fit and finish. I'm pretty impressed.
Dragazn: The dimensions of this bumper are identical to my first one (one of the first VIS mugen bumpers. I've had it for 3+ years (got it end of 99). Not sure what to tell you RE yours... but it hasn't changed much.
Xaithao: i've heard they have predrilled holes, but the brackets don't exist... you'd put in the lamps like you do on a OEM bumper (i.e. fog first, bolt it, then signal). Don't quote me on that... maybe one of the ppl w/ real bumpers can tell you. But yea, they're all fiberglass.
finished product... (shaved the plate and laminx'd the lenses black)
