to answer some of your questions, I did all of the work myself, but I got most of the information for doing it from Forbidden. I paid about $150 for the heater box, control unit and sun sensor, plus another $50 or so for the other sensors and power transistor from a 97 acura cl at the junkyard. I'll be happy to give anyone advice that wants to try this, but to tell you the truth I really dont' want to do it again. Anyway, I took some more pics today with the control unit in, and I managed to shoot a little video of the motor working (my digicam has a makeshift mpg recorder). here ya go:
That Climate Control unit is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Go Pre, how long did it take you to install? Is it worth it? Does it really require you to rip yer entire dash apart? Are you going to make a set of instructions?
Really nice man Makes me want to hurry up and finish mine But I have to change my rear brakes first I went for the inspection today and I'm gonna get my brake changed monday so that's gonna have to wait a bit. There's a guy in Toronto that just got his installed too not long ago. He said the guy who installed it for him had the JDM wiring diagram and pinout... I wonder where he got that... I should check the log files on the webserver
I didn't read the whole thing before I posted, I can't see why your only getting 2 fan speed... mine is working great all 4 speed didn't you get another unit with all that stuff you bought afterwards? is that the unit your using now or your using the one you had before?
to answer a few questions, Yes you do need to remove the dash. It took me about 2 days to do what you see in the pictures. The instructions for doing this are in my post. If you need help removing stuff then consult the helms.
As for the 2 fan speed thing, I have no clue. I even replaced the transistor part with a new NPN transistor. And I ran it with both units that I have - one of them alternates between no fan and full fan, and the other one alternates between lowest fan setting and full fan. very strange. it's really bugging me but I can live with it for the time being, I've already spent too much time working on it this week.
oh, and I just noticed after putting the coolant back in that the temp control is reversed - 18 degrees on the unit is the hottest setting and 32 degrees is the coldest. so I need to figure out which wires on the motor harness to reverse, I think it might be the red/wht and red/yel ones.
Since you have a JDM air mix motor shouldn't the color match the one on the harness?
also for that heater core sensor shouldn't it be connected like the rest of the sensors? I notice that there's a wire on one of the connector that I have no info on it at all and coincidently(sp?) it's a pink or pink/white one I don't remember but if I remember correctly it was the same color has the one on that sensor
also do you think that if you would've had an airmix motor that was a mirrored copy of the JDM one it would've fit at the same place it is on the JDM heater unit?
I'm happy that I now have somebody to ask questions to :P
I have all the colors on the motor harness matched up right now. The problem is that it is operating in the reverse direction that I want it to because of the way I mounted it. I think that rather than remounting the motor I should be able to switch a few wires to reverse it's operation.
I'm don't know about the heater core sensor, I didn't see it in your jdm wiring diagrams so I didn't know what to do with it. the 2 wires coming from it are pink and lt grn/red. I guess the grn/red one is the wire that attaches to all the other sensors as well.
I don't think a mirrored copy of the airmix motor would have made things any easier. the bracket on the motor just does not line up with anything very well. and you having to make the motor perform an extra function of moving the heater valve cable as well unless you can get the vacuum valve thing to work. also when I was mounting it, I had to take into consideration that it had to clear that box which sits underneath the heater box, so I pretty much decided that it would only fit on the side where I put it.
if honda made any left-hand drive models with the digital climate control then you could just bolt the heater box in. but converting the RHD designed motor to work on a LHD car takes a little bit of work.

Oh ok I understand now, switch the RED/YEL and RED/WHT wires like you said they are the hot/cool output wires. I have the actual pinout scanned, I don't think I sent it to you cause I just scanned it not long ago... So if you need it here it is http://vgmidi.com/~jrc/jdmclimatecontrol/jdmpinout.gif

Yes that's what I think too cause if you look at the connector there's a pink wire coming out of it but in the wiring diagram and the pinout it's not there at all. In the pinout it's like there wasn't even a wire there...

Would a mirrored copy of the bracket line up with something if you remove the cable for the heater valve?
When I look at the Acura CL diagram on acuraautomotiveparts.net I think the motor is mount where you mounted yours so I guess I'll have to go ask on the CL forum for some scan of their Helms

you can tell he arranged his dash component around randomly in the first pic to make the work look all complex..he probably just put that wire in for show to make it look even more complex...
haha j/k
Dude, I give you MAD PROPS! I went into fear mode when I saw that pic..I couldn't stop laughing out of amazement.
