Ok. I was on my way to work this morning, in really bad stop and go traffic, which isn't normal up here, but the weather was really bad, and there were cars off the road and accidents and all kinds of things. So the normal 20 minute drive to work took an hour and 20 minutes.
So after I gave up thinking about how my leg was cramping up, I glanced over and noticed my CE light was on. Now.. I know it wasn't on when I left, and wasn't on for most of the commute, but near the end of the traffic, it was on, and stayed on until I got to work and turned the car off.
This is the 1st time since I've owned the car (since december 1999) that the light came on. I know there is a way to check the code, but I don't remember where it was that I had to check it. There is an LED somewhere to check right? Or did I need a jumper wire with an LED on it? Geez, and this has to happen a week before my Helms manual will arrive. Oh well.
The only thing I've done to my car recently, was fit the type-S intake tube. I did leave a little vaccuum hose off (most of you have seen my last post regarding that), but that didn't give me trouble for two weeks at all. I'll go out and check to see if the light is still on when I leave work. I think this might have come up because I was in traffic.. because it hasn't happened before.
Can someone let me know how to grab that error code?
you have to 'jump' that the connector behind the front center console... either behind the stereo, down by pedals on drivers side or possible behind the ashtray. it is a 2 wire, 2 hole female connector.
when you find it... jump it with a piece of wire or a paperclip. do this with the car running and the check engine light on from a code tripping (like the one you mention from driving to work).
then the check engine should flash out a number in a sort of morris code type thing, pauses and light flash's though. (eg. code 12 is:
....*flash*..................*flash*..*flash*
then it obviously repeats with a pause before it flash's the single flash for 1 agian.
I can take a picture of the jumper if you need it and cannot locate your easily.
Have you installed a header? Even if you did this a while back, like months, it may have ruined the O2 sensor. That was the cause of the one and only time my check engine light came on.
If the car is running ok then I don't think it would be the intake, but to be sure check all of the hoses. If everything seems ok, reset the ECU and wait to see if the light comes on again.
The 4th Gen service connector is harder to get to. The person I have adding that to the article is dragging.
The 5th Gens have codes the 4th and 3rd Gens don't have, but almost all the others are backward compatible. The codes are almost universal across all Honda's.
I think they have all the codes with the minor differences between car models on hybrid-perf.
Ok -- Well.. I went out and started my car, and no CE light. I let it run for about 5 minutes, and still none. So I'm going to worry about it until I see it again.
I figured I'd try to find the connector anyway--no success. I only briefly looked for it. Can someone let me know where it is?
Luder-xhpx, you said you might be able to post a pic? That would be great...
I have a 93 lude and mine is on the drivers side of the center console behind the ashtray. There are 2 connectors cliped onto a piece of metal. make sure you get the one with 2 wires. I believe you have to pull off a blue cap to stick the jumper in there.
luder-xhpx >> It would be cool if you could still post those pics up. Maybe someone (or if I still don't find it) else can get some good use of them too. Maybe someone will even help them find their way to the faq
