Will the tire fit?

Ok, I talked to a friend whos thinking of putting some 235/35/17 on his Velox VX-8's which are 17x7.5". He approximates a 1.75" drop. His concern is rubbing of the wheel well and bending of his rims. Comments or questions and, if possible, pictures of 235/35/17's mounted.

According to PreludeCrazy.com, the outer diameter of this combo would only decrease by 10 mm from stock (606mm) to 596. The tire diameter links are near the bottom on the left hand side.

I think the width of the tire is where the problems will happen if they do. What is the offset of the velox rims?

The offset of his rims is +40.

With that drop, width rim, tire width, and offset he is more than likely going to rub.

I would suggest a 215 or 225 max tire for your friend considering the offset is only +40 and the rims are 7.5" wide.

Ok, he also said when he recieved them that he thought they were supposed to be +45 offset and that the order slip had a +40 and +45 box but neither was checked. So if they were a +45, would he be able to run with 235's on his current setup?

With a +45 offset it should be allright. He may experience SLIGHT rubbing during cornering - MAYBE.

I wouldn't be concerned with a +45 offset.

I have 18 X 7.5" rims with a +42 offset and lowered 1.75" inches. Tires are 215/35/ZR-18's and I have not experienced any rubbing. This is what I am basing my answers on. That extra .03mm would probably give hime the clearance he needs to avoid rubbing.
