tire size calculator question

I'm using the tire size calculator here http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

i'm putting in 205 50 16 as my stock tire. I then put in 215 50 16 as the new tire. With the width of the rim and the aspect ratio staying the same why does it say that I will go 1.6% too slow. All I am changing is the width. How does the width affect my speed?

you are taking the same percentage (50) of a wider tire, which changes the diameter.

the "50" is the perenctage of the width... so if u got 215/50 u'd have higher profile tires

You are changing the overall diameter of your tire, but you should not even be able to notice a difference that small. It might make you .001 second slower.

thanks for the replies. I am a retard. I totally thought the "50" was just a size not a ratio. Thanks.
