I have 215/35 as well, they are really small and the ride isn't as good, but damn with a 40 mm offset you might need them in order not to rub.

so should i get
215/40/18 or 215/35/18
will it make any difference on the lifespan of the tire if driven at the same period?

either way your car will have some sort of camber and you'll have to replace the tire from inner wear before you get down to bald tires on both 35/40 series.
35: you will have to watch pot holes more BUT it looks better
40: are like monster tires. you're coo.

I have 215/40/18 Pradas and i rub in the rear w/ the tab cut, but i only rub when i take corners hard. My rims are 42 offset w/ about a 2" drop. Pradas for some reason, in my opinion, look like a lower profile then they really are. Hopefully the pic will help you in some way. The next set i get are 225/35/18...
