shops refused to mount 17in tire ..

I know it's harder to mount a tire to 17 in. rims than 16 inch..
but 3 local shops refused to mount a tire...(they said they might scratch rims..or damage tires).

I got a big(long) bubble on my tire..
I mount 17 rims and tires in local shop last time.. but they told me not to come back for another tire mount.. grrr

Since my rims are cheap rims.. I don't care about scratches..

NTB or Firestone..etc would mount 17in tires? and balance them?
(do they have those sticky weights?)

and I can't get a perfect balance out of those cheap rims(Exel)..(they put 2 stacks of sticky weights on one side alone...).. it still shakes a lot..

so.. my another question is.. If I buy a good set of rims (like... Not exel..), I wouldn't have any problem with balance??

thanks a lot

NTB is notorious for scratching rims. Take it anywhere but there. Is there a Kimmel Tire near you (check kimmeltire.com)? They advertise a "touchless" tire mounting so your rims won't get scratched.

I've dealt with Mr. Tire (I know that the Annapolis and Severna Park locations are both good but they would be a haul for you) and they're pretty good. nobody should have a problem mounting 17" rims nowadays. Think about how many cars come standard with 17s and even 18s . .

in answer to your last question - a better rim/tire combo would be easier to balance. I just bought SSR's with Continental Extreme Contact tires and they balanced without much trouble at all. Remember the tire plays a major (bigger) role in balance. thats why you balance the wheels on a regular basis - to compensate for tire wear.

yea firestone denied me service because they said their machine would scrach my 18s. AFTER I WAITED 1.5 HOURS IN THE WAITING ROOM BEFORE TELLING ME. Firestone needs to burn in hell. And the manager has the nerve to argue with me telling me my tires are not wide enough and that my car is too low and I should raise it so it would fit on their lift. Freaking idiots.
