Ok, so today I took a break from my research paper and browsing PO to take some pics of a problem. I'm getting some inner REAR rub on my tires 17x7 215/40/17 and I think I can cut/grind off what their hitting. Look at the pics lemme know what you guys think.
Im running them on mine and I havent put them on the ground yet....I still have to bleed the brakes...but Ill let you know....also Im running stock SH rims, so the offsets are diff I think too
I have my +5mm spacer on the rear....Ill have pics with it in the air...Ill get better pics tomorrow with the tires on and on the ground...but again Im on SH rims with 205/50/16's
I'm running 17*7 with a 45mm offset and never rubbed on the inside, front or rear. I with everyone thats confused as to how this is rubbing on the inside.
Is it only rubbing on one side? I've never heard of a 17x7 40mm offset rubbing on the inside. The stock rims have a higher offset which push them closer in. With the 40mm offset it should push the rim further away from the control arm. I'm thinking there's bent or damaged causing you to rub.

^ not that I know of, but it could be possible since it had a previous owner.
Thats the only thing I can think of that's causing you to be rubbing. Cause this is the first time I've ever heard of rubbing on the side with your rim and offset. I'd get it checked out.
