More meat!

So since they make nothing in 225/40/17.. Who these days are running 235/40/17?

My Wedsports are 17x7.5 +50mm, I know it's asking a lot but will 235/40 work while lowered on Tein SS?

I don't really have a pic of how much room is left on the inside but here's a shot of how I stand as of now with 215/40/17:

I know it's difficult to say, but would you try it? Is a little more junk in the trunk too much to ask for? Chime in please!

You can probably fit the 235 up front but probably not in the rear with out some fender rolling.

It going to make a difference what brand tire you go with as well because one companies 235 isn't the same as anothers. I have 215s on my car from one brand and I'm looking at another for a replacement and their 205s section width is almost the same as what I have on my 215s.

Thinkin of just settling for boring old 215/40 in some Azenis or Fk452's. Damn I wish Falken had 225/40 Anyone have any experience with the fk452? Oh and the Azenis run wide right? So a 215 would be a little wider than most.

It looks fine the way it is in my opinion. What's the reason for wanting to go wider?

Just for something different. If nothing else, just for the look of a wider stance. I'm also trying to compensate for terrible roads around here. I don't like the look of a 45 tire. I know it doesn't make much difference since i'm staying with 40, but a wider tire might help a little on potholes too.

Well actually going with a 235/40 is going to increase the side wall and over diameter, not just the width. So even though you're getting a wider stance diameter and side wall size is going to almost the same as a 215/45/17. So if you don't like how a 215/45 looks you're not going to like how a 235/40 looks.

215/40/17
Sidewall: 3.4 in
Radius: 11.9 in
Diameter: 23.8 in
Circumference:74.7

215/45/17
Sidewall: 3.8 in
Radius: 12.3 in
Diameter: 24.6 in
Circumference:77.3

235/40/17
Sidewall: 3.7 in
Radius: 12.2 in
Diameter: 24.4 in
Circumference:76.7

Not in the 215/40/17 size. Here's pics of my old Azenis 215/40 vs. new 215/45, mounted on 17x7 wheels

215/40/17

215/45/17

Go with the 45 series if you want something wider and don't mind the OD penalty, which I don't

Interesting Kool-Lude, is your lude lowered? So for the Azenis RT-615,a 215/45 tire is about an inch wider than a 215/40 tire.. maybe i'll go with them, do you mind posting a shot of the sidewall if you get a chance to?

^^^yes I'm lowered. The diff. is about 3/4 of an inch. I definitely feel more grip with that extra width too (went on a little canyon run the other day). The OD is quite a bit larger. Here's some more pics, but keep in mind that the 215/45's have FULL tread and the 215/40's are very worn.

45 vs 40 series 215 Azenis on OZ Superlaggeras 17x7...

I run a 215/45/17 tire on my 17x7's and certainly enjoy the extra meat. It's also reassuring when you hit a pothole and there is the little extra insurance your wheel isn't going to bend.

I'm on O.Z. Superleggera's as well.
