Azenis get greasy but last longer with track use. Kuhmo needs heat to perform well though they chunk a little bit at the track but they don't get greasy.

I'd try the MXs. The Azenis work great when cold, but lose their grip when they get hot. So after 1 or 2 laps, you will be sliding (understeering all over the place). The MXs, on the other hand, get grippier once you get some heat in them.

Definitely get some heat cycles and wear on either tire before you go to the track. If you overheat either tire when brand new, they may start chunking. But as long as you break them in first, and take breaks in your lapping for proper cool down, you should be fine.

I have Kumho MX and they are very grippy moreso than the Nitto 555s before, and the treadwear is a lot better than 555s. I estimate i can easily go 15-20k miles on a set of MX. I havent tried the falkens

what profile are you using? considering a 40 profile in the mx's on 17's but that might be to low.

What width would you be running though? Just saying "40 series" isn't enough information.

if the azenis are going on your 17's, you're stuck with running the 225/45/17 size, which isn't so great for gearing.

if you're waiting for the new azenis, you might have more options, but no one knows what they're going to be like.

it's hard for me to pick any other street tire over azenis. the grease problem sucks for lapping, but the grip levels are too awesome to overlook. also, taking a short break to spray em down and getting back otu on course is the method i use to keep the grease to a minimum.

So the Azeni's you think would make a better combination auto-x / track tire than the MX's? I need one tire for mostly auto-x but the occasional HPDE for next year.

Scott - I used Azenis all season for autox and 2 DE's and they were fine for me on the track. They do start to lose grip after about 4-5 laps at TWS(2.9 mi), but nothing unmanageable. I liked em better on the autox course than the MX or F1's because of the sidewall stiffness...they give you better feedback IMO. Never been on MX's on the track so I cant say there.

Thanks Drew. Maybe Jay can chime in about the MX's.

I hope to do a boatload of auto-x's next year, so I'll probably go with the Azeni's anyway. I'm hoping to maybe get in close to 20 next year.
