I followed the guide, yet I'm rubbing.. HELP!!

I'm using 215/40R17 tires on 17x7.5" wheels, lowered on H&R race springs with Koni yellows. The recommendation list in this forum say that I shouldn't have any problems, but the fronts are rubbing like crazy. The front wheels are rubbing on the splash guards on the fenders, and it is pretty bad. I got an alignment today, so now my alignment is perfect.

Btw, SH gurus, can the SPC camber kit adjust the caster on the SH? I heard rumors that it can. My caster is off quite a bit now that they got camber to the factory specs.

Thanks for the replies.

whoa...it's 48mm and it's rubbing? that blows...

it only rubs when you make a U-Turn and hit a bump right?
not CONSTANTLY? if so...that's probably normal...
how much is your drop? did you drop it more w/ the yellow's clips?

Every slight bump makes me rub.. it's pretty bad cuz my splash guards are getting worn quick.

I'm on the lowest perch on the Koni's, so I'm guessing 2" front, 1.8" rear?

geez, im on 215/40/17 too but with rims with a +42 offset and i dont rub at all. im pretty low too, little to no wheel gap. maybe stiffening your shockswould help? but since you rub constantly, that wouldnt help...

hm.. what tires are you running? Maybe that has something to do with it.

I have no wheel gap at all.

i have the es100's. the times i did rub was before i shaved the tab behind the fender. but yours is rubbing in the front so i have no clue. so youre not rubbing in the back, only the fronts?

are you SURE it's not just your splash guards rubbing against the ground? Why don't you take your splash guards off and try driving without them... there's no reason for your splash guards to be getting worn since your wheels never touch them. I'm almost 100% sure you're not actually "rubbing" with your tires but rather from your splash guards hitting the ground.

r u talking about tires rubbing the fender? or ur mudguards rubbing the ground?

Not specific to the SH, btw, but yeah - there is some amount of caster adjustment. Although you sacrifice some or all of the camber adjustability to use it . . . . hard to describe.

But your caster shouldn't need to be off, even with it lowered - are you sure they were using the SH alignment specs? They're slightly different than the base model.

Hey guys, thanks for replying.

I'm rubbing on the FENDERs.. the black plastic piece under the fenders (not sure what you call that). It's definitely not mud guards because I have OEM kit on.. no mudguards. I know it's the black piece on the fender because it's showing worn signs QUICK. I am not rubbing in the rear because the rear has slight negative camber, but it's still in spec - and I shaved the tab a long time ago.

I'm guessing that the wheel guide applies to lowered vehicles, not just stock?

They followed SH specs. I made sure everytime they touch my car because the first time, they were going to do "EXCEPT TYPE SH," which scared the hell outta me.

I don't really consider my car as "slammed," since I still have a lot of room up front, and the H&R race only lowers it by 2.0" f and 1.8" r at most anyways.

But just so that you guys get an idea of how low...

I'm going back to the alignment place in a few minutes to have them adjust my camber to make it more negative. Specs are -1.0 to 1.0, and I'm rubbing with -0.5, so I dunno if it's ok to actually ride at -1.0 camber. We'll see.

Thanks again guys. Keep the replies coming.

-1 degree should be fine, and could very well fix your rubbing - I've got roughly -1.5 all around, and don't notice a problem with tire wear (as long as toe is kept in check).

And what type of tires do you have? Some tires have broader shoulders than others . . .

I'm at -0.7 front left, and -0.9 front right now. I have Kumhos up front, and ES100 in the rear. Kumhos is one of the tires with smaller shoulders, so I don't think it's that. I now have no rubbing, but I haven't really taken any hard turns yet.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Thanks again.

If your tires are rubbing on the inside liner close to the lip, then I think the only way to resolve it would be to raise it up some. If you are rubbing the actual fender, then either raise it some or try more negative camber.

In lieu of raising it all of the way up I would try just raising the C-clip up on the Konis.

I was wondering, if I raise the the front by one perch, would it be even with the rear? Currently the front is lowered by 2.0", and the rear by 1.8".

Any idea?

Hey I think the 1.8 r and 2.0 front is for the middle perch on the KONI's. I believe you are lower than the H&r specs

Thats so weird that you are rubbing with a +48 offset. Im also dropped on H&R race springs but with KYB AGX, running on 18's, 225/35/18 and i dont rub AT ALL. Try raising it a bit.

Have you double checked the offset? I know you say they're 48, but they look lower to me from the pics? Could swear I was a good bit more tucked with 17x7.5 +47, but I haven't had my lude in quite awhile.
