Hankook H405 and Falken 512 VERSUS Kumho 712

i have searched but found no direct comparison's.

I normally run with Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s, but its time for new tires and i'm wondering about some others. Can anyone compare the Hankook Ventus HRII H405s or the Falken Ziex ZE-512s versus something i'm more familiar with like the Kumhos?

Do they stack up to them? worse? better? opinions? thanks!

the reason that there are no direct comparisons is that those are completely different tires. The Hankook is an H-rated all season. The Falken is a W -rated (some sizes are V) high performance all season. The Kumho is an entry-level performance tire. The Kumho should have the best cornering and dry traction but is useless (and flat out dangerous) in cold weather and snow. The Falken would be the best tire if you use the same tire/wheel combo year round. It won't perform as well as the Kumho. The Hankook is inferior across the board as far as performance goes but will last longer. If you want a summer tire similar to the Kumho 712, check out the Hankook Ventus K104 - all reviews I've read have it ranked much higher than the 712.

thanks for the info man... i knew they were both H-rated tires, but was still wondering the comparison. i'll look into the K104s and see what i find.

EDIT: unfortunately it doesnt look like the K104 or any other performance hankooks are made in the size i need: 205/50/15

Damn, I'm in the same boat. One of my POS tires is punctured, so I'm taking the opportunity to replace them all with something better, in the 205/50/15 size too. The 712's are what I was looking for, but are $276 shipped from TireRack. A friend of mine works at a wheel/tire shop and he can get me 4 Falken 512's for $200 out the door, but the all-season thing has me miffed - I'm in Miami, it's rarely cold and never snows so I'm looking for something that's more along the lines of a summer tire. He runs the Azeni ST-115's in his EF hybrid Civic, loves em, and recommended them, but it seems that Falken doesn't make it in 15".

Are the 712's worth the extra $76? I drive really spirited with the occasional hard launch at a stoplight, but don't really road race or autocross.

i'm running Falken Ziez-ZE 512 in 205/50/15 right now and i love them. i've had them on for over a year, (i just replaced 2 a few weeks ago). there is a little road noise, but not enough to worry about. these are the best tires i've ever had and will continue to use them until i start making more money to be able to afford to burn through Z rated tires
