Dumb question of the day

ok after I get married I am planning on FINALY lowering my lude...
here is my problem....I have done plenty of searching on this but cannot find a definitive answer...
I currently am riding on 17X7 Rays G-Games with a +42mm offset... here is where all my research got me....lowering this car with these rims will be a problem...
ok dumb question of the day is:

on the inside of the wheel could I have some of it machined off and the wheel still strong enough not to cause damage going over bumps and what not?
My thinking behind this is that if I machine part of this off, is that the wheel will be farther from the outer wheel well(which is where the problem will occur)
In other words I want to do the exact opposite of what a wheel spacer does...

ok is this a good idea and will probably work...or is it doomed to failure?

Thanks

sounds cheaper to get wheels with a different offset. you would have to get it professionally machined for it to be perfect.

get 5mm spacers........................................... .............. if it's rubbing inside. If it rubs the fender outside then roll your fenders.

i'm suprised they would rub at all with properly sized tires. care to elaborate?

you shouldnt be rubbing this set up... +42 is out a little more than normal, but many ppl run this setup , but maybe im just stupid, but putting spacers on their would make it worse...

How would this affect anything? The tire is what rubs, not the wheel, and you're not changing where the tire seats. You'd only be thinning the lip that holds it on.

Either that, or I don't get it.

I really don't think you'll have a fitment problem if you have the typical ~1.5" sport spring drop and 215/40/17 tires. What suspension setup do you plan on using and/or how low do you wanna go?

17x7 +42 is fine, you can lower it without issues.

I had rota subzero knock offs (yes they do exist. ) that were 17x7 +42 offset. NO RUBBING wiht a 1.5" drop. Even if they rub a little bit...it'll just shave the tab off by itself. NO big deal.
I had 215/40/17 tires also and my drop was the Tokico Illuminas and Tokico Springs. NO problems at all.

Just DO IT!

I have the same setup. My rims are 17x7 with +42 mm offset. I run a wider tire 215/45/17 with a 1.5 inch drop. The only time I had trouble rubbing was when there was three people in the car while going over a bump. I stiffened up my shocks and it hasn't rubbed since.
