Alignment Swithcheroo?

I recently bought some new rims and tires for my lude, 18x7.5 with 225/35/18 tires.

I was wondering if the car would still be aligned if I put my stock wheels and tires back on to get an alignment and afterwards put my new wheels and tires on.

Or do I have to do this with the new wheels and tires?

Whenever I put the new and old wheels next to each other, the new wheels where only a few centimeters taller, I think due to more tread.

The main reason I want to do this is to avoid a careless tech scratching the paint on the wheels.

Yes, the wheels should have no bearing on the alignment. Why are you worried about scratches - the tire mount/dismount process is more likely to cause damage than an alignment.

The only way the different wheels could change the alignment is if the overall diameter or offset was dramatically different, but since these tires are only .1 inch larger in diameter than stock, it won't be an issue.

Well, It could cause more damage to dismount and mount them, but that is something I have control over since I will be doing it myself.

And I am not 100% sure, but when I have looked at the alignment pads/things that they atatch to the wheels during the process, it is metal on metal.

Thanks for the comment, anyone else think this is a problem?

I've done a few alignments in my career...it could definitely damage the wheel if they used the alignment heads with no adapters. they attach to the inside of the rim unless they put on adapters...then it attaches between the wheel and the tire. it could still damage the wheel but it is more difficult. as long as they're careful, you shouldn't need to worry about damage.

And as was already stated, the wheels won't make a difference in the final alignment. If you're worried about damage, do the alignment with the old wheels.
