5th Gen 17x8 with 215/45 s

Is anyone currently running 17x8 wheels with 215/45s? I am looking to do this set up on my 5th gen (stock suspension and ride height) and want to ensure that I wont have a rubbing problem?

Also, I'm considering the TSW Indy 500 rims....anyone have them or have pics of them on a 5th gen?

TSW Wheels: Indy 500 (Silver)

Any Input is Much Appreciated!

Use the Recommended Tire Sizes & Offsets thead in the wheels and Tires forum. Its one of the sticky threads at the very top. The search feature is also very helpful.

Saw it, researched it, and did several searches as i saw that a response similar to yours is typical in these forums.......I really could not find anything referencing a 17x8 wheel and 45 series tire. There is plenty for 7.5" wide tires with 45's, but i just want to make sure that this extra .5" is not going to screw me.

I would be confident with the 40 series, but want the most meaty tire that will possibly fit with a stock ride height.....and am hesitant about spending $1500 for the wheels and tires to find out. Thanks for at least acknowledging my post!

From said offset tread:

Quote:
8" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.
Not recommended without enlarging or rolling outside lip of wheel wells. Some people have had success with running offsets larger than +48mm, but you are taking a risk. The setup that is working for monk3y is 215/40/17 tires dropped about 1.5".
I would think a 215 tire on a 8" wide wheel would look goofy anyways, and it would probably rub.

Short answer: That wheel is too wide.

Why would it look goofy? 215/45s fit fine on 8" wide wheels. They're recommended for wheel widths from 7-8".

If you can get a high enough offset it will fit.

That's the problem, they only come in +20 or +40 offsets.

Also I think a tire that skinny on a wheel that wide would look a little strange. I am accustomed to my 235's on my 7.5" wide wheels though.

Welp then he can't run those rims. I've run 215/45s on a 7.5 wheel and it looked fine, not stretched or anything so that half of an inch isn't going to make a huge difference.

Why would you get more rim than tire? Even if it does fit I wouldn't run a 215 on an 8in wide rim. Throw some 235's on there. Also +40 might be a little to low for 17x8

Exactly what I was saying. Skinny tire on wide wheel, and too little offset. Pick another wheel. That one will rub.

Ok...so it seems like everyone is in agreement that these will not fit (which is frustrating as they are recommended by wheelsnext with 40 series tires for this application). So its a no go.

Any recommendations on the best wheel and tire size for a 5th gen that I plan to keep at stock ride height? I hate the gap between the tire and wheel well that seems to always be the result of using the same size diameter set-up...so am looking for something as wide as possible with a meaty tire (large sidewall).

My other option was the rota slip 17 with a 215/45...

Thanks as all feedback is appreciated!

Check out the member's rides thread and look for something that you like. There are a great many different wheels to be seen over there.

17x7.5 or 17x8 in the range of +43 to +50 and you can run a 235/40/17

Alright....next option
http://www.wheelsnext.com/wheels-rims/TENZO-Cuzco%20V1-Black%20w|%20Stripe.html

Tenzo Cusco w/ Nitto NT555 225/40/17

Whats the consensus on these? It's a 7" wide wheel with a 225....but i dont think this should be a problem...any thoughts?

I cannot find the offset of those wheels anywhere on that site. Without knowing the offset there is no way to know if/ how well they will fit.

Offset is 42 per Tenzo [ TENZO-R ] TENZO RACING SPORTS :: OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Anyone see a problem with this set up and 225/40s? I am told both Nitto and Falken tires run small, so I am optimistic.

If all that information is correct, then they should fit as long as you don't lower your car.

confirmed by Discount Tire to work - price matched & ordered! Thanks for all of your input. When I have them on I will post pics as I couldn't find any nordic mists with the black/red lip wheel combo.

I'm on 18x7.5 +45 with 225/40/18. Lowered 1" with no rubbing problems, usually.

The whole point of getting plus-width wheels is to accommodate wider tires for more traction. 215 on 8" wheels is pointless.

I think 7.5 width and 225 tires are about as wide as you'd want your wheels/tires.

Im not saying this is the case for the OP, but unfortunately for some people the point is to have the biggest wheels, cause that makes you a bad ass.
