225/50/R16 tires on stock wheels?

I want to put 4 winter tires on my stock SH wheels for the winter, but I can't find any for under like $90 per tire. Someone near me on craigslist has 2 blizzaks for $30, but they are 225/50/R16. Will this fit on a stock wheel? I am lowered about 1.5" so will it rub?

Also, he is only selling two tires and I would prefer 4 so I don't have to re-use my RE-92's in the rear...has anyone used just two winter tires in the front? I know it is best to get 4 but considering the price it would fit my budget.

you'll be fine. i ran 225/50/16 with one finger all around with r-compounds haha. just be careful, as IF it does run, the knobs on the blizzaks will tear something up

Save your monies, and buy 4 tires in the correct size.

Not only is just 2 winter tires in the front a bad idea, but in many winter states it's illegal. So wherever you go to get them mounted/balanced may not let you do it. Also, the wide 225's up front would compromise traction in the snow - for 95% of winter conditions, you want a narrower section width, not wider.

Perfect advice. I have 195s on 15x6 steels and they work great. I would avoid running wider tires, much less only two snow tires!

I also agree with the above... don't do just 2 tires. You are better off doing what ludikris mentioned above and get some steeles... TireRack has a package for $376, you won't have to pay to mount/dismount tires each winter/summer either... don't forget your mounting & balancing costs.

The package is 195/60QR15 Bridgestone Blizzak REVO 1 Blackwall w/ steel wheels. Use the "Building Your Own Package" w/ 15" tires...
