215/40/18 OR 225/40/18 on 18x7.5

I have 18 x 7.5 at +45 mm offset going on my car with a 1.5" H&R sport + kyb-agx drop. I'm looking to avoid rubbing, but I also don't want to run 35 series. Would 215/40/18 be too little for 7.5" wide wheel, and would 225/40/18 be too much with this set up?

All answers appreciated. I have read stickies many times in last 6 months (yes I've had these wheels in closet for 6 months), but I'm just looking for someone who can help talk me through it a little more. Thanks

215/40 will work fine if you aren't slammed. Just watch the curb rash.

You would be surprised how little difference there is between the 215/40 and 225/35, both in terms of actual sidewall and how they ride. That tiny bit of extra sidewall means almost nothing when it comes to comfort or impact protection for your wheels. Your choice of tire make/model will have the greatest effect on ride quality. I'd go 225/35/18 to maintain the correct overall diameter and choose a more comforatble performance tire like a Goodyear F1 GSD3.

No 18's (on the Prelude at least) My car has the 17" SSRs, dropped on Tein SS in that pic. The car with 18" Volks and VIS Mugen kit in my sig is NoRice4u - beautiful car He used to run 225/35/18 Potenza S03s - haven't seen him in awhile so I'm not sure if he still uses those.

The drop in that pic is approximately 1.5" on mine and slightly lower on NoRice4U's car. You could send NoRice4U a PM - I don't have any more pics of his car.

Rob - remember that the sidewall measurement is a dynamic measurement. Its a percentage of treadwidth. Granted all tire mfrs are a bit different, but all things equal, the sidewall height of a 225/35 isnt that different from a 215/40

215 x 40% = 86mm sidewall
225 x 35% = 78.75mm sidewall

Thats roughly 7mm, not a huge difference. Anyway all that nonwithstanding with a 1.5" drop and 7.5 +45 wheel, I would stay at 24.5" or less OD on the tire(stock is 24"). You will want to look at each tire you are looking at specifically to see what that OD is(they vary quite a bit even when looking at the same size from tire to tire). Remember, the larger the OD is for each tire, the more actual sidewall it will have.

come on rob... you can take my 215/35's. Just put the rims on the car.. hahha... but im running 215/40... it's slightly larger than the stock diameter. I need that little extra protection b/c of the roads in new orleans. Overall.. it looks basically the same as 215/35, just a little beefier... i personally dont like the 225 on the 7.5 width rim.. but would add to the protection. Be safe, and either get 225/35, or 215/40.

I have 225/30/18s on my 7.5" wide rims with a 45 offset and they don't rub.
