Was there a reason why you went with 245/35/17 instead of 235/40/17? Is it just to keep with stock diameter sizing?

Is the 245/35 wider (ie bigger chances of rubbing) than the 235/40 tire?

^^^ according to the Falken specs the 245 does not have a larger section width(sidewall to sidewall) but does have a higher treadwidth. More tread on the ground = more traction. As far as the diameter, the 245/35 is shorter than the 235/40, which can make it better for acceleration when you are talking about using it for autox or track days.

So... basically there are few side effects with these Rotas and 245/35-17's?

We discussed this a few days ago on AIM, that you felt there was indeed a weight penalty that very significantly affected acceleration, and that tire pressures would have to be fine tuned to see improved results on the track.

This lead me to believe that everyday driving quality would be diminished or there would be no discernable improvement around town.

What about on the highway?

Also... would a BBK clear these rims, since they're designed for Sti's?

Well... if you consider the weight penalty, expensive tires, machining of wheels, and fender rolling a "few" side effects, then yes.

Yes, I really saw no decrease in times on autox. But I was definitely steadily improving throughout the day and by the time I finished my last Fun Run, I was a full second and a half faster than my fastest competition time. I'm not quite sure about tire pressures just yet.

No improvement. Can't say there's a diminished ride quality.

It sounds like it depends on your skill (and boldness) as a driver whether or not these wider tires will make your lap times any faster-- pushing the car to a higher limit before and after every turn without fear of losing traction.

As for added weight, do you think just the rims and 245's alone will make the Prelude slower around town?

I find it very difficult to break loose my Bridgestone S03's in 205/50-16 on the stock 20lb rims under just about any circumstances except slick, rainy roads.

I guess I'm trying to decide between 16x7" Slipstreams on 225/45-16 Bridgestone S03's or the 17x8 Slipstreams on the 245/35-17 Falkens FK451's or Goodyear Eagle GDS3 as being more advantageous on the expert end of driving.

^^^ see my thread in the Autox forum. I've gotten much better on driving these tires, and I think I've pretty much figured out my tire pressures. They're definitely starting to get better...

ok so i didnt know that the sideway aspect ratio was a ratio compared to the width of a tire....so lemme get this straight, forgive me but this question is just spur of the moment and im asking cause the tire looked taller than most 35 aspect ratio tires ive seen...so answer me this with the above information in mind...

a 215 35 17 rim will be very short sidewall compared to a 235 35 17. so essentially if you wanted to go with a 235 40 17 tire...it would look way too tall on the sidewalls if you favor like a 215 40 17 tire.

word hehe, was thinking about getting these wheels and rolling the fenders on mine, not as wide of tire but ill probbly go a more extreme offset, be awesome if i could see the pics
