call me stupid, but what is this VAFC that I see all the time.

I understand that it made by Apex and it is a VTEC air fuel controller, but what does it do?
Does it change when the VTEC kicks in?

Why do you have one?
What are the advantages to it?

thanks

forgive me....I'm a new prelude owner!!

you can adjust when your vtec kicks in and you can also adjust your fuel settings. The prelude runs rich, meaning too much gas at wide open throttle and in vtec. With the VAFC you can lean it out, taking away gas, that way the car is running as efficiently as possible. It is mostly used to tune the car to get the most horsepower possible out of the engine.

FROM THE OPTAUTO.com site
Piggyback Fuel Computer with Integrated VTEC Controller.
Modifies manifold pressure signal and alters VTEC engagement point on Honda VTEC engines; Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).
A'PEX introduces the first digital fuel computer that combines fuel computer functions with a VTEC engagement controller. The V-AFC features a user-definable, eight-point, adjustable fuel curve that can be set in 500 RPM increments. The range of fuel adjustment is +/- 50% at each of the user-defined setting points. The Fuel Adjustment function considers wide/narrow throttle and low/high camshaft settings, from which four different fuel maps are created (wide-low, wide-high, narrow-low, narrow-high). The integrated VTEC Controller adjusts the point at which the engine switches from the Lo to Hi cam during acceleration, as well as when the engine switches from the Hi to Lo cam during deceleration.

Here is mine had it custom made and painted to match my car color. It looks slanted because it faces the drivers seat instead of just back.

my install's the average install, unfortunately I'm in college right now, without my car, so I can't go about touching it up making it look better

I need to work a good way to get it covered up, don't want my car getting jacked for that thing!
