Project 240 finally started!!!!! BACK FROM PAINT

After 3years of waiting I finally started ripping apart the 240. So far in the last week I've pulled the motor, tranny, and most of the electrical harness', and accessories from the engine bay. Within the next 2 months it will be painted and I can drop the new motor and tranny in and have her back on the road for spring. Mods will include, full JDM kit, shaved antenna, gold pearl paint, S14 SR20, 5 speed manual tranny and a couple other goodies. Stay tuned for more.

KA in it's home, but not for long

Driveshaft removed

Matt working

Automatic FTL!!!!!!!!

Ready to be lifted out

Goodbye KA you won't be missed

KA is out

Leftovers

Some idiot in the engine bay

Man that looks impossible to get back together! Rust FTL! Living in Minnesota did me dirty too.

As 97laxlude pointed out, all S14 SR20DETs are black top. They all look like this:

Here's an old pic of my red top to hold you over.

Looks great, Kevin. I'm definitely excited to see where you go with this. I don't want to see 200 pics of an empty engine bay in next update! Remember to get those heater hoses sorted out before you get the motor back on the mounts. It can get very tight back there.

Let me know if you have any questions. Between myself and a few others on here we might be able to help out.

Update as of thursday. I removed the A/C core, ECU harness, wiper motor, cleaned the entire steering rack, disconnected all of the brake lines. All I have left in the engine bay is removed the brake master and booster and a couple small random things like all of the black caps for plugging unused holes. And I still need to pry out that stupid battery tray, I've been kind of putting that off. Then I get to move onto the doors and windows. So far it's been a very messy, frustating, tiring time and I wouldn't change it for the world. PICS!!!!!!!

ECU harness

My shelves all full of parts

Engine bay getting is getting there. I spent about 2 hours cleaning and went through almost a bottle of degreaser and several shop towels. It was a good time

Fun with a mini grinder!!!!!

Battery tray removed

Rust spot on the front of the passenger side shock tower

Rust spot on the back of the passenger side shock tower

I'm gonna have a buddy come over hopefully next week to tackle fixing this. Cut, weld, grind and I should be good to go. Kind of sucks but when it comes to rust stop it before it's gets any further.

Car leaves next week for some rust repair, stitch welding, and then to the shop for paint. I decided to just have the engine bay and aero painted for now. I just can't justify spending $3-4K on a paint job.

As she sits tonight:

It has come along ways. I'll let the pics tell the story.

Finally ordered this

After 2 months it is FINALLY leaving the garage. Time to get some rust fixed, and some paint work done.

And I also have a garage to park in.

I got the garage cleaned up tonight, tranny pulled off the old KA, and both mine and the wife's cars fit in the garage. I told her she could park in the garage this winter, so the preludes been stuck out in the cold since the 240 started

it's a '04 mazda 6. Great car, I don't mind driving it every once in a while. I'm trying to talk her into gettting some coilovers for it, but I doubt that's gonna happen.
