New to the forum bought a Prelude!

Hi all, registered as a forum member today but have been lurking for a couple weeks.

Up until recently I drove a 98 Civic DX coupe (auto). Mostly stock, with a couple add-ons: intake, exhaust, stereo, HX wheels, other minor touches here and there. After blowing up two D16s in the past 6k miles, it wasn't worth fixing anymore. That was my first car, and it treated me well. 191k on the odometer.

So I started hunting for cars and decided I wanted a 5th gen Prelude. Problem is, a nice one is tough to find. Or at the very least, one with decent mileage that hasn't been beat on or riced out.

But I got lucky and spied this 99 SH on craigslist. The body is pretty much mint, as is the interior (after a thorough vacuuming and cleaning). Only 101k miles on it. $6k later, it's mine. The kid I bought it from left three iPods and a whole bunch of other crap in the car.

It needed/needs a little bit of work. The windshield has a big crack in it, so that's getting replaced tomorrow. I already changed the oil, new wires and plugs, intake hose clamps, wired up my stereo. Plus more cleaning, cleaning, cleaning (note: I still need to clean/wax the exterior).

That being said, does anyone have a grille and front emblem they would part with? Previous owner removed them and I like the way it looks better with them.

Icing on the cake is that I just got a job as a junior service writer at a Honda dealership. I start Tuesday.

I'm in New Paltz...so an hour south or so.

The car has been great. Muuuuuuuuuch more fun than my Civic. But then again, most motors are more fun than a stock D16. Some stuff I've changed/will change (more pics to come later)...

The cold air intake installed by the previous owner was a piece of junk - he ran the intake down into the bumper and the only way to get at the air filter is by taking the fender liner off. So I scrapped that part and threw on a new air filter in the engine bay. The old filter was rusted to ****. HUGE improvement.

The previous owner also replaced the dome/map lights with these blue-ish LEDs that look kinda cool, but don't actually provide any light. I'm replacing those with some super bright LEDs I bought from Lights On LEDs. Those should get here this week.

I'm leaking oil up near the distributor. I'm not sure if it's the cam plug, or the VTEC solenoid gasket so I ordered an OEM gasket and Golden Eagle plug with the triple o-ring seal. Also ordered a valve cover gasket, distributor o-ring and PCV valve. Gonna chuck some Sea Foam in the gas tank at my next fill up and see if I can get some better mileage. Plans are to paint the chipping black valve cover while I have it off.

I had the car inspected and the mech cracked a lug nut taking the wheel off. He showed it to me and there was more rust than I wanted to see, so I bought some cheap Dorman replacements off ebay. Color happened to be red. A very pink-looking red.

I washed the car too. Ficus Green Pearl would look really gorgeous after a nice wax, but it's pretty cold out. That might wait until the spring hahaha.

Other than that, the car is good. Motor pulls strong, tranny is smooth. Good luck so far!

More work recently...

Pulled the valve cover to replace the cam plug seal, VTEC solenoid gasket, check the valve lash and repaint the cover. Also took off the IAC valve and cleaned that (didn't need it though).

Next up...cap and rotor replacement, LED cluster conversion, grille installation.
