My 98' Prelude "Build" Thread

Well as a few of you may have already seen I was planning on doing a JRSC and a bunch of suspension/chassis work on the Prelude.
These plans have since changed for a few reasons (budget, durability, availability of parts, trusted local tuners)

That being said I will be building up a nice N/A machine and will be picking up a motor in the next few weeks to build. It will be a complete tare down and rebuild of the motor.

Here are a few pics of the lude as she sits right now.

General outline for the build is a complete engine rebuild with Type-S pistons, forged rods, Skunk 2 valvetrain, LSD, light flywheel, performance clutch, coilovers, full exhaust, chassis reinforcement, strut bars, short shifter and some odds and ends.

Will post up once I have the engine torn down and starting to go back together.

Why use cast pistons on forged rods? Either use Mahle pistons or sleeve with the forged piston of your choice since if you use say the Skunk2 Pro2 cams you're gonna need more compression to really make use of them.

To be honest I was just planning on buying a piston and rod set but I'm open to suggestions.

The trick for me is I will not be having the block re-sleeved during the build. I have use a block guard of some kind but in my area there is no one who offers this service.

After having a look at the Mahle website it looks like they have invested some time into figuring out the issues we have with the fiber reinforced Honda cylinders.
I think I will go this route just have to figure out the compression ratio I want to go with. I'm wanting to do something high compression for sure. They offer an 11.5:1 compression piston but will this be suitable on the street. I run only 94 octane fuel on the road only and 94/Race Fuel when at the auto-x circuit.

Pretty sure you'll be fine with 94 at 11.5:1.
