As you guys know, I said goodbye to my 96 Si cause I traded up to a 98 Base. That one was then stolen, and I saved up money to buy a 2001 Base. Well, this morning I said good bye to another one.
It was 5:45AM. I was on my way to work. I hopped on I95 south, but it was closed off at around 79th st. So I get off and go down 79th towards Miami Beach. All of the lights were blinking yellow but this one was red. There's a gold Toyota Camry stopped at the light. I downshift to 2nd and start coasting to my stop, put it in neutral and begin braking to a halt. I'm going about 5mph right now. Then I look in my rear view and see lights coming FAST. BOOM! Red Toyota Avalon hits me going at least 30mph. The impact lunges me forward and I hit the Camry.
We all pull over to the side. Make sure everyone's alright. The lady in the Camry asks if I have insurance, I show her I do. She sees that her car has minor damage and takes off (probably had no insurance but whatever, saved me a ticket). I, of course, took down her tag. The guy in the Avalon begs me to not call the police, as he has no insurance. And says we can settle this out of court. The damage was major so I couldn't trust this guy. I call the police.
While we wait for the police, this guy goes in his car and knocks out. The police arrives and goes to his window and bang the **** out the window till he wakes up (took like 5minutes). So I now assume he fell asleep behind the wheel (****ing idiot). So they take down everyone's info. Turns out the car is a Hertz rental (how'd he have limo tints on it? wtf). So they make the report that he was insured by Hertz rental service. I call up a guy I know (owns a shop). And he tows me to his shop, and he's gonna work that crap out. Meanwhile, I go to Hertz to file a claim/get a rental. They search up this dude in the system....Turns out he didn't pay for the Hertz insurance, that he listed his personal insurance (but it wasn't on file). So I call the guy....and he tells me he has no insurance, to deal with the problem with Hertz.
So I got my lawyer on the line. And I'm not even gonna get my insurance involved. This guy was COMPLETELY at fault (as stated in the police report). Hertz rented him a car without personal insurance and didn't charge him for Hertz insurance. So as far as I'm concerned....Hertz or this guy are paying for my ****, and I'm taking it further and suing Hertz.
Everyone said it's most likely a total loss. Even the police. You guys think it's worth fighting it?
I R SAD :'(
