look what elbow grease can do! :)

when it was new:

after time....the gold started to fade -some discoloration from dirt, there were a couple stray fingerprints left by some bastard who thought they were welcomed to touch =P

so I got to working with some Mother's metal polish....hardcore:

but my hands feel so raw and tired lol.

Holy Crap!

I'm going to have to do that to my header!

I didn't clean it when it got installed and now it kinda looks bad, but yours looks fantastic!!

That will be one of my weekend projects for sure!!

What do they look like after a few weeks? Do they just go back to dirty?

it stays shiny until dust and dirt cakes on like any normal polished header, but the effect is lasting - it just removed all the oils on the header. The directions on the metal polish says you dont need to rub hard...but I found out when you do, it smooths the surface of the metal too hahah.

Carol, did you remove the header from the car or just work on it in the engine bay?

What did you use to apply the polish, remove and buff?

I bought some Blue Magic metal polish which is suppose to work well too. I hope to attempt polishing mine this weekend.

oh, i dont remember now. quite a while. hahaha i was really inspired to do that because i accidentally dropped a detailing rag onto my header and it burnt up onto it :X so then i HAD TO do a good job to polish it all off. doesnt take much to get some shine out again. takes alot more work considering my header wasnt a polished one before, and i ended up smoothing it all over.

no steps. really. just wait til your motor is cool. bust out the meguires. use a terry cloth, swipe out some of the polish, and rub it onto the header. you need to rub until the product turns black for the chem reaction.

You could probably get a soft buffing attachment for a dremel, and save some "elbow grease" too. I am going to try this sometime this week.
