DREW's Ride *Updated Pics*

Here's a few updated pics of my 2000 Honda Prelude Base (pearl white) after the AEM Big Brake (front & rear applications) was installed today by the Honda Specialist. Took the Technician about five hours to install front and rear big brake kits, AEM/Nissin pads, Goodridge SS lines, and bleed the brake lines (Valvoline DOT3/4 brake fluid).

Pedal feel is a lot firmer but won't know if braking was improved until after 300miles of light braking to break in the pads and rotors. Pics are not too great because of lighting and only had about 30mins of day light. Installation began at 1:00 this afternoon and didn't get done till 5:30.

BTW, the rims are 18x7.5 (50mm offset) Advan Kreuzer Series 5 (silver metallic) lowered with Skunk2 coilovers and Tokico Blues non-adjustable shocks/struts. Lowered 2inches (front) and 1.75inches (rear). Rubber is Yokohama Paradas 215/40series tires.

Other exterior cosmetics are Honda OEM underbody spoiler kit, Tanabe Racing Medallion w/full cat-back. Clear corners and bumper lights with amber turn signal bulbs. JDM foglights and 25% tint

Future mods in mind will either be a Jackson Racing Supercharger or Greddy Turbo setup. Not too sure yet but this may be put off if I decide to get the new 03' Honda Accord to replace my daily rider (92' Ford Mustang). Any questions or comments are welcomed! Will definitely post better pics as soon as possible!

I am getting your rims in 17's/gunmetal, good taste my friend..!

thanks to everyone who's replied...

menace,

i paid a total of $968 for both front and rear applications. i believe if you check with www.preludeparts.com they have the kits on sale.

98vtec,

yeah the pics don't do the car any justice. it looks a lot better in person. i'm a rookie at the digital camera skills.

boyguan,

i didn't notice it till you pointed it out! man! thanks for the heads up! this is definitely something i'm not too happy about. i know for sure the front slots are pointing the right direction but the rears have gotten me really concerned! the braking has not been affected but i will definitely get a hold of aem as soon as possible to see if the the rear kit was installed improperly.

the installation was done by a honda specialist so for sure tomorrow morning i will contact them on this situation. i'm pretty sure this will be an easy fix but i hope the rotors are not affected. i will update everyone on this situation.

99Interlude,

Well I may not get a turbo or supercharger If I decide to get a replacement for my daily rider.

Kegster,

Yeah thanks for checking, I went into the Honda Specialist at 8am this morning and they fixed the problem. Didn't take them that long but the mechanic for sure felt a bit embarassed. But it's all fixed now...

Pioneerprelude,

Thanks for the compliment. As for the Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust. Very nice exhaust system but the glass-pack wears out prematurely and needs to be repacked almost yearly. Repack will set you back $45 not included labor. I've haven't done this before but IMO another exhaust system that does not need to be repacked is highly recommended. When the exhaust system starts to sound raspy then you will know for sure it is time for a repack. If I've known abou this I would have not gotten this exhaust system.

thanks for the reply...what exhaust do you think you would have gone with? im trying to figure out the best for me. i want a deep tones(like 99% of us) and just an all around good exhaust. What would your pick be if you could go back and change it?

Thanks
James

James,

The Greddy Evo seems to be a favorite with the members on this forum. It has a deep tone and a lot of members have that setup. Other exhaust systems that are popular are the Apex'i N1, Thermal classic, and the Mugen exhaust systems.

If I could choose another exhaust system it would probably be the Mugen exhaust.

Nice ride, let us know how long the pads last with normal driving. I still want to see proof of the cheese grater theory.

When you first put the rotors on, you can hear the rotors breaking in the pads when you stop... sounds funky, but after about a week the sound goes away...

Hope to have my car sold before I find out how fast the pads wear out

Also in my opinion, the breaking feels quite a bit stronger then the stock setup, plus no more rubber feel when you push on the break pedal, but thats probably due to the JR break lines I installed..
