Phantom black metallic, black leather interior with a 6-speed manual.
0-60 in 5.3s, 1/4 mile in 13.6 and gets 29 MPG...
Sorry to see the 'Lude go though...

I've seen one at the track last week-end. He managed to do a pathetic 15.5 ... best time in 10 runs....

looks great in black. I heard that GM is offering good deals on remaining 2004 GTOs.
hope that they'll keep making the GTO for another 2 or 3 years so I can pick one up. Especially now that the 2005's and up will have the 400hp LS2 from the C6 Vette
How could it better gas mileage than a 4 cylinder? And how could the city/highway be so incredibly different (17/29)? I thought you have had a mistake with your number because I had heard 17/21 but I guess that's only with the automatic.
Good luck actually getting on 29 on yours, though. Like they say, if it doesn't make sense, it's probably not true.

why didn't you wait to get next year's, was the deal that good? my friend got one and its fun to drive but he hasn't seen anywhere near the advertised 29mpg on the highway. the body roll is abit much but the fact that if you're going 40mph and throw it into second, you'll turn it sideways, always puts a smile on our faces.
Yeah, the deal was that good, so I didn't wait for the '05 LS2. Of course 350hp and 365 torque is nothing to shake a stick at..I love the way the exhaust sounds too....In order to get 29 MPG I'd have to drive perfectly slow, of course the sixth gear helps...Yep, the suspension is nowhere near as tight as the Prelude...The Prelude has it beat hands down in that area..Of course they both put a grin on my face, but the rear wheel drive is an added thrill factor...

the GTO's handling improves dramatically with a good summer tire according to the car mags. Going to an 18" and lower profile is a huge help too.
the soft handling should be an easy fix - its a very capable chassis. you could always go coilovers and thicker sways in the future but I bet the tire/wheel combo is whats holding the car back the most. I'd just enjoy having 350 tq and RWD for awhile though. Probably a lot of fun without any mods at all.
It really is a blast.. Yesterday, I aggressively accelerated out of a turnaround and in an instant the rear end came out from behind me, even with the traction control on...I loved it..

if you really want to have fun, turn the TC off. oh yeah, i forgot to tell you, there's a recall on the rear-end. my friend was driving on I95 when he suddenly felt like he was in neutral, he would hit the gas and the revs would climb but there was no power. he heard a loud pop, pulled over, and saw his axle hanging down from his tranny. they had his car for 24 days trying to fix it and the part was on back-order. i'd def. look into it. otherwise, have fun
nice. i am likeing this car more and more. sure it could be more aggresive looking, but i am sure there will be aftermarket kits soon. they are advertising 7k off around here. so around 28k for a 04' not bad. imo.
very nice upgrade - completely different from the lude though HAHA!
GM rear wheel drive V8 vs Honda front wheel drive I4.
hehehe
I haven't seen many GTOs around in my area.
My only wish is that the car wasn't so round.
I've always pictured GTOs being aggressive.
Besides that, I love American V8!!
There's nothing like the sound of a roaring 8! muhaha!
My friends have a Saleen Mustang and a SS Camero. Both are mean tire ripping machines!
I always have a smile on my face when they punch it!!
As for the highway gas mileage - yes it's possible.
We took a road trip with the SS Camero. In 6th gear, it surprisingly doesn't use up that much gas.
Although, with the modified exhaust, it's hard to hear each other and hold a conversation.

Just because it's not a 4 banger doesn't mean it can't get good gas mileage. My dad can get 30+ in his '99 Firebird Formula and very close to 30 mpg in his Z06 Corvette. Its all in the gearing... i.e. 6th gear at like 1500 RPMS cruising at 80 mph.

Well, ok, I'm just so used to hearing American v6's and v8's getting 15/21 mpg vs. 4 bangers getting 24/30+ mpg that the figures just seemed implausible. But yeah, a large 6th gear would help on the highway, because even if the engine's big, if it's not runner very hard to keep the car going it's going to get more out of a tank. But I have a feeling to get 29 mpg you'd have to run at 60-65 mph in 6th until the tank was empty, because if you're stopping and accelerating a lot, it's really going to start to guzzle.
Why is it more cars don't have a 6th gear?

Actually, more and more manuals are coming with 6-speeds...Its like the 5-speed was...For a long time a 5-speed would have been considered exotic, now its commonplace..Give it a few years, it'll happen..

Nice, but I just wish Pontiac had done something retro for styling. It's like they put the Grand Am, Grand Prix, and Bonneville together into one body and called it the GTO.
