That's awesome Carol... Good stuff! Is this an addition to your car portfolio or is it an eventual replacement for the Prelude?

RWD rocks!

hey Carol, how do you like you white lightning, I had my downpipes and exhaust side of turbo coated. It does help a lot on radiant heat. But be warned it does like to collect lint, hahaha. Just wipe it off though

it looked awesome! it is definitely a thick, definitive ceramic coat bonded on there! i've been itching to get the car back, but as it sits i think im waiting on some parts to fix a main bearing seal oil leak. its getting street tuned and then im popping it onto the dyno this weekend. but i dont expect any massive power. the downpipe's on there, but the stock cat's still restricting everything. i have not picked up a hi-flow cat or midpipe like i've been wanting to.

soooo...what's your experience with the rx-7? i've wanted one for a long time, but i keep hearing that the engines are kaboom after a short period of time if you try and pump out too much HP from them. are they relatively low maintenance if you were to just keep it stock? also...is it a lot of custom work to switch from the pop-up headlights to the one pieces?

they're high maintenance even if you keep it stock, especially given the age these vehicles are in now. things just start breaking down from wear and tear. and the parts are just not cheap. ive thrown too much money at it already just to keep it going, and my car's pretty dang stock still. in the last year as far as maintenance goes:
-window switches needed to be replaced
-master/slave clutch cylinders needed to be replaced
-power locks went out
-almost all pillowballs/bushings needed to be changed out
-tie rods went out
-needed new tires
-fans werent coming on early enough so it needed new thermostat and needed to be rewired
-vacuum lines needed to be fixed
-battery needed to be replaced
-secondary turbo went bad, had to change that out
-cat's dead
-just found out primary fuel injectors are leaking -
-the stock blow off valve is leaking
-had to reflush the coolant several times because of rust and weird stuff in the system
-fuel filter change/spark plugs/wires/lots of oil changes done every 1-2k miles
-hatch shocks are dead

.......
its an old car, lost of things break and need replacing just to keep it going -_-
whats your definition of too much hp? the car can be made to be fairly reliable if the owner reads up on them and takes care of the car by adding all the recommended reliability mods like a downpipe, a metal ast or ast elimination, alum radiator...etc. and ive seen some mildly modified rx7s running some quick times....but tuning and fuel are really important. just pulling off the restrictions you have bottlenecked at the exhaust can cause the car to go kaboom if you don't take care of all sides of the car.

i see...how much did you pay for your rx-7 and how much mileage was on it when you purchased it? in theory, i tell myself in my head that i can keep up with all the basic maintenance requirements of a stock rx-7 and all, but do you feel that it's worth it? it's a hot car, and the only thing holding me back from getting one is just wondering how much of a PITA it will be keeping it in driveable form around the city. i don't plan on increasing the HP at all since it's mostly city driving, maybe in the future though.

i left out, main bearing oil leak and oil pan leak also.
car was a good deal. it had 170k miles on the chassis and was on its 3rd rebuilt motor. since ive picked it up, ive spent another 15k on it. given there has been some mods and stuff that i've been picking up and parts that i upgrade...but yeah. when you buy one of these cars, you always want to keep a spare fund for back up costs -_-;;

man, it sounds like this car has a ton of problems. you've spent 15,000, how much of that would you say has been on just maintenance and keeping the car running? i've spent a lot of money maintaining my prelude (a lot for stupid things i've done though, not the cars' fault). would you recommend the rx-7, given all these issues you seem to be running into? what would you consider to be a good mileaged rx-7 to purchase?

it appears that there were 3 major recalls with the rx-7, fuel line/coolant/brake. did you get these fixed when you bought your rx-7? do you know if these are the main issues with these cars? or do they still have tons of other problems after these issues are fixed?

the main issues with these cars is heat. and as an owner, you're constantly just trying to do all you can to drop that heat. thats why replacing the downpipe, upgrading the intercooler, replacing the vacuum hosings because the rubber hardens and cracks are all considered reliabilitiy mods.

its hard to say what money was spent on upgrades and what on maintenance, because a lot of the mods that were done were not done for power upgrades, but for reliability, with power gains as an additional plus ^_^ but if you were to ask me the minimum i could have spent to keep this car running safely, it wouldnt have been 15k, itd probably be more like 5k.

if you're considering an rx7, go to www.rx7club.com ....theres some crap on the forum, but theres also tons of useful information also, and itd be wise for any potential rx7 owner to go through all the pages and learn what they're getting into before they actually take the plunge. i spent a good 6, 7 months on there soaking up information first

If ever I am to get rid of the 13B...it will be for a 20B! 0_o hahahah

I have been busy with the coche.
I think my last update was the interior carpetting.

Since then...I've replaced the center tunnel cover, center console, new shift boot, ebrake boot, the euro rx8 5-speed weighted knob - as far as interior goes.

Also installed the Apexi PFC with the commander, and had my mechanic enter one of his base tunes for a similarly modded rx7 until i get some issues straightened out. My primary injectors have a small leak going on so I need to get replacements, and while I'm at it, I'll be kicking up the secondary injectors from 850 to 1300cc. DId I mention the stock bov is leaking, so its time for an upgrade 0_o I'm thinking of the Sard R2D2 bov, but I haven't gotten around to buying that yet either.

I had these crazy autoexe rear and front strut bars set...

but I ended up selling the front because its just not practical.
I can't reach my oil filter with it on, plus I can't relocate my coils away with the kit I bought because the bar is blocking it as well.
Also sucks that the front strut bar weighs almost 12 lbs! hahahaha
I'm hunting for a 4 pt front strut bar thats been discontinued right now. It took FOREVER dremeling the rear plastic for a real nice, clean install. I'll post pics of that.

Also, I spent last week's free time (the hours when theres still sunlight after I come back from work and school) installing a DIY sleek projector light kit. The kit kind of sucked as far as fitment. 2/3s of the holes i needed weren't drilled in. The 1/3 of the holes that were drilled in, were drilled incorrectly so it didnt line up with any of the brackets, which meant I had to either then correct it on the housing, or stretch out the holes in the brackets. -_-;; Did I mention the connectors on the projectors didn't connect properly with the wiring harness either? Hahhaha, so there was a lot of sanding the housing, primering, painting, drilling, lots of itching from the fiberglass... ;_; Then it took me awhile to get lining the projectors right, but the spray of light seems pretty good. I'll post pics of that later today also ^_^

I got word from SMB in Australia that they've just finished my resonated metallic cat / midpipe, and its on its way.
However long thats gonna take...

Oh, a friend of mine also hooked me up and gave me his old front feed fenders, so that saves me money. I'll only need to buy the rears to have all the pieces needed to throw the car in for a repaint (although its the funds that are really lacking so it wont happen anytime too soon). I would have bolted on the fenders already, but I had to leave them at the bodyshop. The trunk of the rx7 can't even carry a milk carton standing up, it has to be laid on its side, what made me think I could carry fenders back in it? hahahahah

nice job on the strut. Not a fan of any of the exterior mods though sadly. Then again my rx would be bone stock exterior

i have to admit the exterior looks hilarious right now.
its too front heavy because none of the other parts on the side and rear are on, and its still stock rims hahaha. plus, nothings painted, so theres three different colors on there, plus lenses missing for the front feed/signals.

I was thinking of doing a 99+ spec before, but its too common, and it wouldnt let me go as wide as I want on the rims ^_^

the kit will look a lot better once it gets closer to completion:
i.e.

I have a nissan color in mind....
but it looks like the exterior of the car might have to be put on the backburner.

I just wasted money on a new front strut bar to replace the one I sold.
I went from the
superOverEngineered-extraHeavy-6pt-ugly-RedInTheEngineBay
strut bar to a
super-slightlyLessOverEngineered-4pt-aluminum-morePractical strut bar hahahahahah.

PLUS....i then wasted money on a super-impracticallySmall-butAwesomelyPortable-6.5"notebook :

....and I'm in the middle of negiotating for a really good deal on a v-mount IC.

^_^ I need to work m
