i bought myself a 97 prelude a few months ago with only a "small" idle problem but ended up being alot more than i thought. i changed so many sensors and went through every hose and put all new gaskets and nothing helped. later realized it was the timing. As i was changing everything i started to find so many more problems. One of the motor mounts wasnt bolted in at all, there was oil under the entire block, the axle was busted, it grinds some gears and a bunch more... so i cleaned out my garage and put my car in there for the winter so i dont have to work in the snow. i decided that i wanna keep the car so im gonna redo everything. i just started to pull the front off and the engine. This is my project for this winter and i hope to get it on the road in the spring.
this is as far as i got today, ill post more pics as i go.
and these just a couple pics of my first car... this one has been through everything so i had to sell it, but it helped me get the lude
the civic only had the silver hood cuz the cf one that i had cracked and the rims were there cuz i didnt feel like buying new tires for the hx rims this is wat it looked like before the silver hood
the guy who bought it loved the silver hood... i was surprised
and heres for the rest of the pics i didnt put of the nearly finished product... like every other tuner car, there is always something else to change
this is the reason it ran like crap... the person that changed the timing belt did a bad job
the motor was so dirty.. took a while to clean all it all out
and thats it just before dropping it back it i had more pictures but they are on my other camera, some of these are blurry because they were takin with my cell
Oh man me and you are alot alike with the car problems. Im doing a rebuild shortly here aswell. Complete over haul. I fixed everything aswell..and still kept getting more problems..Now i have a horrible tick even with everything completely replaced..
Did you have any noises coming from you motor or ? What were you noticing from it if you dont mind me asking.
its good, i dont have any ticking or knocking but i got a lil bit of noise were the timing belt is but i think its just the tensioner bearing... from you said it might be coming from the valve train. is it coming from the top or bottom end???

definetly top end. I know ill for sure have to rebuild :S
Excellent job on the cleanup. It's good to see people putting time & effort into high quality fixes these days. I get so sad when people treat these cars like throwaways.

Great work man! Its always nice to see people doing the work on the cars themselves.
Keep it as a DD while you work on your next project, thats what im doing with mine
thanks for the comments... the car burns a lil bit wen im kickin it in the vtec... every prelude burns some oil but some burn more than others... i actually just sold the car cuz i just dont want to play around with cars, i need some time off so i bought an 02 suzuki gsxr to play around with this summer... i sold the car to my bro so ill still have updates as i do more to it
That sucks that someone was killed in the accident, was it the old mans fault? I don't think anyone over 70 should be allowed to drive themselves regardless. Hopefully your brother doesn't get charged with vehicular homicide.
