5th Gen Build, first "new" car first Prelude!

After saving for about a year for my Prelude I finally found a nice on in the city, about a week and 4,600 dollars later it was mine! So I guess here is a little journal of what I am going to do to the car as I do it. I'm 19, work part time and go to school so it's going to be a little slow. D:

Year: 2000
Color: Nordic Mist
Original Miles: 81k

To Do List(now);
1. New Tires, between the four wheels I have 3 different tires, thanks previous owner!
2. New Wheels, curb rash like it's no one's business, will try to sand down what I can and get them nice for an alternate set of wheels or when it comes time to sell it.
3. Spoiler, really like the look of the OEM spoiler, just need to find a good place to get one or get a replica.

To Do List(future);
1. Cat-Back exhaust system, anyone reccomend a nice affordable brand. Magnaflow, Vibrant or Flowmaster any good?
2. OEM Lip kit.

I'll start with some pics tomorrow, it's waaaaaaay dark outside and I didn't want to take any pictures without a nice wash!

Didn't want to take too many pics in the cars sorta.. ugly state, I want to do a lot with it and want to reveal it in all it's glory, lol. What the hell can I do about the sun damage on the plastic panels on the side windows and the discoloration on the sideskirts?

Window molding, just buy new, I did, easy to install and looks better than trying to paint and make it match. The side skirts, Krylon Fusion plastic bonding spray paint, flat black, made mine look like new on my 4g.

Welcome to the Prelude gang!
Car looks pretty nice as is... (comparitively to mine at least!)
I know exactly what you are saying about taking pics before you get it to a point that you are proud of how it looks. I'm with ya there.

On the side skirts... is that paint overspray or just wax? Looks like wax?

Took of the 'skirts and sprayed em with the Krylon flat black fusion stuff, put them back on and they look just about new, should last until I figure out what kinda of real 'skirts I want. As far as the window trim where can you guys recommend I get some and how is it installed. Do I go to a local shop and they do it or can I order some online and just chip off what's left?

You get them from the dealer just like any part imaginable for the car, doubt there is an aftermarket equivalent and if there were it probably wouldn't fit good. To replace it just roll the window down and from the inside pry up starting from the back of the door working your way up, it's just plastic clips.

The side skirts probably got all ashy from some dummy using dish washing soap to wash the car.

If your interested in the spoiler, ive got a stock one for cheap.. like 10 plus shipping (pm me)...
anyways.. as far as the side window molding.. I would just sand it down and respray it with plastic dip (im pretty sure thats what its called) or you can search for one of the write up

I owned a Car Detailing business in the DC area for 8 years and ALWAYS used Dawn Dish Soap for washing ALL the vehicles I detailed. (Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Acura, Lexus, etc. etc.) I NEVER had an issue where the "dish soap" discolored any of the paint OR trim.
As a matter of fact, every autobody/paint shop that I know of recommends Dawn Dish Soap as the only soap to use on a vehicle after it has been re-painted.

In my experience, the number one cause of discoloration (other than the sun) was a novice waxing the car, getting the wax on the trim, and not removing it promptly or properly. From the pictures of "SethBroNasty's" side-skirts, it looks to me like an episode of "buffing wheel gone bad."

I would be concerned about painting the plastic if it IS wax... the paint may not adhere very well if it isn't completely removed. (Which is why I asked if it was paint over-spray or wax. Hard to tell without being there physically)
If it is just temporary it doesn't really matter I guess.

Will do, thanks!

Here's a shot of the 'skirt as it is now;

It looks like only the bottom of it is painted and the top is still an ashy white, it's just a reflection of the door, it looks pretty good in person.

Now to get work on the wheels and tires..

congrats. your car looks pretty clean.

i don't think nordic mist was available as a colorway in 2000. my car's color looks exactly like yours and the VIN registers as crystal blue metallic.

Wait, that's a color? I assumed the only blues were EPB and Nordic Mist, it might be CBM, I should check.. Lol.

Inevitable happened. Hit a screw while driving to work am now looking for new tires, don't have much in way of cash so I may go to Les Schwab and get some new tires and wheels with some kinda loan, anyone know much about tires? Would like to stay close to the 205/50 16" OEM reccomended size.

I like Firestone/Bridgestone. You can go 215 if u want a little bit wider tire.

Here are the wheels I am currently interested in. MB Weapon - Gunmetal
And here are some 215/50 tires that fit off the same site. Falken Ziex ZE-912

How can I check if the 215 tires work on the wheels, or can all 16" wheels fit 205/215 tires?

It all depends on the wheels. The ones you mentioned should support 195 205 215 and 225. The second number is the height, 40 50 55 60 etc. You need to make sure that the height is not too large according to the width, or your wheels will rub. Do a TON of research and make sure you get tires that will fit and will function properly. Ask all your questions here, people will be glad to help you.

Bad news, car acting up. After getting gas the car starts, begins to sputter and dies. Then it will only start if I have my foot on the gas, after several minutes it will start and be fine until I get gas again, the hell is going on?
