3 weeks of agony...

So I'm not sure how many of you knew, but on the way back from NOPI, my car got hit at the gas station by some white trash low life in a Ford Contour that "didn't see" me (uhm... big bright blue car now must be invisible in Hicksville )

So anyway... here's a little bit of the progress pics to show the story of the car being fixed...

This is 4 days after it got hit.... I snapped that one on the way to the body shop

Following Tuesday I went for the first visit... here's a few from then

Body work wasn't looking right down near the bottom so I pointed that out and hoped for the best... I really did NOT want the panel cut out and another one put in so they worked with what was there (yeah yeah I know.. but I'm sentimental ok?)

The following Friday I go in to look and the body work still looked the same.... I was and told them to redo it

Went to visit again on Tuesday this week and found her looking better... but the paint was noticably lighter on that side of the car... so I was again and considering getting rid of it whenever I got it back

Got her back on Friday.. there is still some work to be done that I found once I got into different lighting conditions. A few fish eyes and a cloud in the paint... little bit of debris here and there in the paint but a nearly exact paint match which I'm pleased with

So there ya go....

hey that's pretty cool
glad to see you got your car back

i'm curious to know how much the bodyshop charged for that because i had the same thing happen to the same rear fender.

i'm sure it looks different in person, but how smooth is the quarter panel?
i notice the line doesn't continue straight right where the door ends.

all in all ---- it looks GREAT!!!
The paint match looks fantastic considering it's probably a hard color to match.

Same thing happened to me a week ago but it was an Expedition and she managed to take about the whole rear quarter out. Still waiting to hear back from her insurance but the garage told me it would be around 4K b/c the inner fender is also bent.

Well the bill so far was around 4k for the body/paint work. I didn't let them put a new quarter panel in. They worked with what was there so the labor charge was actually a little higher because of how much additional time it took to pull that out and work the metal.

It actually lines up perfectly. The pic you quoted is from before it's "finished". If you look at the last two, you can see it's back to how it's supposed to be. I wouldn't have taken it back if it wasn't exactly right.... Quarter panel is perfectly smooth. Feels no different than it did before the accident.

Paint was actually really hard to match because none of the formulas were dark enough blue.

And as for letting the other person's insurance take care of things, I'd advise against it. I have USAA insurance and they told me it's ALWAYS better to file through your own company and let them deal with the other person's insurance to get your deductible back. The other person's insurance company has no interest in pleasing you -- you aren't their customer.

cool - i'm glad everything worked out for you!!

and YES, you are correct.... let the insurance company battle against each other!!
it's easier for your insurance company to demand money from the other party's insurance company.
