1997 k24 BB6 build from Miami!

Whats up guys, ive had this car since I turned 16 and never thought i would end up dumping every penny into it and living paycheck to paycheck. I was waiting to finish the build but since it seems like its never ending I just decided to share it now. Theres alot of things missing that I will be updating on the thread soon. The plan is to drive it up to IA this summer!

Heres when I found it on autotrader back in summer 2006, 1997 Nordic Mist Metallic Type SH.

So i saved up working all summer of 2007 to buy my GC/Koni suspension and then i totalled it the same week the suspension came in.

The car sat for a couple months since insurance wanted to give me **** for the car and i had no money to fix it. Decided to fix it better than any shop could, with the help of my father since he welds for a living. Some DIY new front end .

Back on the streets with new front end + GC/KONI combo, winter of 2007. Being in high school i was too broke to paint the car so I save and planned on using my tax returns the following year to get it fully painted, so i drove it with the black front end for a while.

Fresh paint + color change to (98-00) Crystal Blue Metallic, March 2008

Around June 2009 i Got a good deal on a set of staggered Regamaster Evos from a member on s2ki, and picked up some rays extended lug nuts since it was my DD at the time. Around that time i also ordered jdm fogs. The car only looked like this for a couple since since the motor was soon to go!

UPDATE Well the H22 had been acting up for the past year with a misfire and had a loss of compression due to bad rings. After doin some research online i decided to attempt a K24 swap since i wasnt going to rebuild my h22 being that it was a type-sh block+ tranny which are not compatible with normal H22 so i wasnt able to just swap trannys and i didnt wanna spend money on an H22 swap that would eventually need a rebuild anyway. At this point there had only been one bb6 with a custom fitted k20 swap done by a shop called RPMNYC in NY but i decided to go ahead with it since Hasport was selling a kit for the 4th gen prelude.

Finally coming together after making the decision to go K swap. Got in contact with Hasport and sent them my harness and they got everything back to be within a couple weeks. At the same time i was hunting for a 2006+ tsx swap since i was picky and wasnt going to settle for an 04-05 unknown mileage. Found Brandon Peterson on K20a.org with a 2006 tsx full swap with only 7,xxx miles out of a tsx pace car.

- 2006 TSX K24A2/ 6 speed
- Hasport BBK axles, mounts, wiring harness
- Tanabe SMH

random pics off my phone. lots of other new things that ill post up when the car is done.

Mothers Day UPDATE
well i spent the day dropping in the motor to check clearance on the subframe. Also to finally weld in the driverside bracket (red bracket) that i got off a 4th gen prelude since the HASPORT kit i have is to drop in to a 4th gen not a 5th gen prelude. gonna pull it out this weekend to prep the bay for paint.

These are updates from a while back.. once again all the pics are crappy because there all off my phone.

This is how it sat with the motor finally in and car on the ground...

I got a deal i couldnt pass up on this k20 SSR 4-1 which i decided to make work even though im running a k24, i figured i would either modify my subframe or extended the header to fit.

got to work on the bay and shut most of the holes in the bay & also you guys can also see the cut in the subframe to clear my K20 SSR header.

meanwhile i started collecting some spoon parts to add to the car when its finally done. got my hands on an authentic spoon signed kseries VC, a kseries spoon TB, Vision MC mirrors and a couple other things. still missing a few

Also finally got my hands on a pair of never used discontinued Memory fab buckets

As of right now the car is most likely gonna full color change since i have too many parts that need to be painted and I am not satisfied with the quality of the paint on the car. Let me know what you guys think..

Great stuff so far. You're be the 2nd 5th Gen to attempt this swap, or at least that's what I know of.

Thanks, Well the first K20 swapped bb6 was done custom by a shop called RPMNYC a couple years back but they ended up crashing it and parting it out. Recently theres another k20 swapped bb6 in poland which is also custom. Mine would be the only K24 swapped & using the Hasport kit.

Clean car, unique. CBM's the next color I'd want after an EBP.

I think that is about right. I remember seeing a thread about a k20 swapped 5th gen being totaled some time ago.

Well I finally got my brake tuck and I also picked up a used but mint Spoon Gen2 to add to my collection thanks to ludeboi121. I plan on installing the brake tuck this sunday since Ive been so busy and finish shutting some holes on the bay to get to paint soon. I also ordered a carbon fiber sunroof plug from lighterfaster.com and picked up a Type-s flushmount spoiler, ill post pics once they come in.

Heres the new color I have in mind.

The guy with the first K20 prelude was a member here. Pretty sure he doesn't post anymore but he came to one of the bbq's back in 03 or 04 I think. It was black and he molded JDM fogs into an aftermarket bumper.

It was totaled not long after that. I had the luck of seeing it with my own eyes, being an old man around these parts..

I'm extremely interested in the carbon fiber sunroof plug you have. I would like for you to do a big writeup and take lots of pictures when you eventually put it on, please? After removing the whole sunroof assembly to put in the SiR red sun cover, I was amazed at the heft of the entire roof assembly. And seeing as how my sunroof rubber gasket has some "lumps" more than likely from rust underneath, it's something I'd like to change out sooner than later.

I will deff take pics on the installation process. The wait time is 3-5 weeks before I get it since its made when ordered. Im actually doing the c/f plug for the exact same reasons you mentioned. Not only does it reduce close to 50lbs of weight, but my sunroof gasket looks horrible with rust lumps all over.

Have you thought as to how you're going to install it? I have done very little research online about it, but from what I've read, they recommend to "pop-rivet" it into place. I'm not so keen on this process because I would think that pop rivetting anything carbon fiber might cause it to crack. Or, I would be worried that the holes being made into the metal of the roof would result in rust occuring in a very short amount of time where the steel is no longer protected by a coat of paint.

But I did read where they say a thin application of silicone sealer should be used between the metal and carbon fiber to ensure water-tightness.

In for updates.

If you could please, post close up pics of the mounts to the car/frame.

Are you going to retain AC in the car? I assume not though.

Well on their site it explains some brackets req rivets and others req weld in, so im not too worryed but as far as rust issue, i would have to wait until i install it but i would hope they are smarter than that and the rivets dont lead to rust. check it out It's all about POWER to WEIGHT ratio

I plan to drop in the motor again this weekend or next week and ill make sure to post close up pics. I am in fact keeping A/c using an rsx a/c compressor. I actually had a custom traction bar made since my car is originally a Type-sh and traction bars are not ava. I mainly needed it made to clear the a/c compressor because it wouldnt clear the stock front subframe. I wont be running P/S but A/c is a must in Miami!

Today I got my type-S flushmount wing to go with my type-s lip. got it way sooner than I thought, since i just ordered it monday afternoon & also picked up an s2k cmc from my buddy at honda. In this pic you can also see the cut out for the edm rear fog which I recently sold and picked up another stock rear bumper since its no longer the look im going for & trying to cut as much weight as possible.

This is one of the best builds I've ever seen. I love those rimsssss. The carbon fiber plug thing got me to thinking... maybe it's possible to just replace the glass with the plug and keep the thing functional, idk just a thought. I'm guessing your aim is to remove the whole thing.

It may be possible but like you mentioned i want it completely shut. i actually plan to paint match the carbon fiber plug to the car, similar to the 4th gens sunroof except it wont open.

Yeah that's what I assumed. Are you gonna be pulling a lot or something? All this weight reduction gives me ideas..
