No problem with this lens, a great cheap zoom lens with plenty bang for the buck. The hood has a couple minor scuffs on the outside but attaches and works just fine.

^^^ If it was it would be 5x the price... If I had ANY disposable income I'd take a crack at this lens. My friend has a similar canon and for the minimal cost its pretty fun to use.

well sigma does make a 200-500 f2.8 for 30k....

I have the canon version, decent glass if you are going to be outside as you can use f11.

What did you buy Keith? I've noticed an unloading of glass / equipment lately...

I actually had/have to unload my 20D, 30D, BG-E2N x 2, Sigma 70-300mm and Canon 28-135mm IS to justify buying a used 5DMKI with BG-E4. :P Friggin nuts!
