Weird Tranny Leak - Honda Prelude Forum

Background:

I just replaced my tranny fluid about 3 weeks ago. No problems since then, honda MTF ftw! Tonight I noticed a weird smell from the car and a little smoke from the engine bay while I'm stopped at lights. Park the car and see this:

Guess I've got a nice leak somewhere! No oil loss, all other fluids are normal so it must be the tranny. I've looked all over and can't find where its leaking from. Any ideas? Here's some more pics:

Could be from the missing fill plug.

Well I guess that is good because you only have to replace the fill plug. Maybe you should flush or at least drain the tranny to make sure that any dirt that may have gotten in there is out.

When my tranny was leaking I was hoping it was just the fill or drain bolt loose but it was the axle seal on mine. Only about $100 to replace at the dealer though.

All fixed. Honda had to order the part as they don't keep it in stock.

I also drained and refilled the tranny with Honda MTF.

Hope everyone learned something today, always, always, ALWAYS tighten bolts to the torque specs! Todays lesson is brought to you by the letter X.

yea, I thought we had already figured out the missing drain bolt at hte meet
