Formula One racer to try NASCAR?? - Honda Prelude Forum

This may not be a first, but I guess it hit closer to home since he's a fellow Colombian.

I heard this weekend that Juan Pablo Montoya will put his driving talents to the test in NASCAR 2007. Seems like it'd be a no-brainer that he should definitely not have a problem getting a hang of it. I mean...his current racing has quite a few more turns than 4-5 turns in an oval.

But...the whole strategy in NASCAR is totally different, so who knows. It'll be interesting to watch how he does. Hey, now I'll actually not have to turn down NASCAR tickets next year!

Wow, I didn't know that. Yea, it will be interesting to see how he will do.

I wonder why he would even want to move to NASCAR. I couldn't imagine him making more money in NASCAR vs. F1.

It will probably take him a while to get used to oval track racing. I wouldn't expect him to do all that great his first year. I'm sure once he gets some experiance under his belt he'll be pretty good.

I searched some to find out why? Turns out he was quite unhappy in F1!!! Basically that F1 focuses too much on the technical side of racing. He's also looking forward to having more passing opportunities and being able to actually touch another car without "being called an animal" for doing so. He makes 14 million with F1 and is actually going to drop to 5 mill with NASCAR, but of course, then come all the endorsements. I would've never thought him to be unhappy in F1. Sort of a bubble burster for me.

Danica Patrick is also looking into making the switch to NASCAR. I also learned than Montoya is an accomplish oval track racer. He has already won the champcar series and won the Indy 500.
