Hi all, just created an account here so I could interact a little more. I like the new living space, walls painted, carpets clean but anyways, on to the point.
I'm currently eyeing a 1993 Honda Prelude (Si I think?) with an H23 under the hood, 5spd. Approx 95k on the engine, and 215k on the rest. The seller bought a new radiator to put on it, and from what I hear, the car runs great, just a little 5th grinding at high speeds, but other than that, good. I fired it up when I went to look, and it ran good, no knocking or pecks, solid H23 sound. The interior, it's quite messy and would need lots of detailing, but I'm definitely able to get it looking great. Now my question. The pics I'll place below show the exterior of the car. Obviously, no clear coat is on it from my view, or very little lol. From what can be seen, does this car look like it's worth 2k? It is running, and in driving condition. Obviously needs work done on it cosmetic-wise, but if it's worth the price tag, I might just cop it up, and get to work I appreciate any opinions or suggestions that are given, in advance. Thanks all, and I look forward to owning a Lude, whether be this one or another one!
Edit: forgot to mention, there is the typical rust on the quarter panel of the drivers side, passenger side has none. Looked the car over and no other spots for it. Everything but ABS supposedly works. Driver side turn signal is duct taped in.
I wish there were more and better pics. I think it's worth 2k if it runs smooth like you said. 4th gens go up in price every year as they make great project cars. Less and Less of them are around.
You could get that car into shape. It looks like a good project. Get rid of those hideous wheels, they look like someone's bad nightmare. Go with 15's, maybe 16's max.
See if you can get it for $1750, offer $1500 first and then settle in the middle.

Thanks for your opinion. I'd definitely go with some other wheels, I'll ride around in it like that until I can bank on some clean 5 spokes I've had my eye on but it's got the H23 in it, and we fired it up, didn't hesitate and I pulled the throttle cable while under the hood to hear it purr, sounded nice. It would definitely be a project car because I have a DD to get me around.
Thanks LudeDan!
Edit: I'm going to test drive it this week some time, which would be my second visit. Buyer was willing to take 1k now and another 1k when I get it. If I can get him 1500 quicker then he might do that instead, less risk for him :P we shall see
I actually think he may be willing to drop the price a little. He's a kid, somewhere around my age at 20, I think he's younger though. He didn't know as much about the car as his brother did, so I spoke with his bro more. And of course my dad being the car mechanic he is, I have learned some of what to look for on the car. Body was sound on it. And only light lit up was ABS.
I would if I wasn't just now going into work lol. I'm going out tomorrow or Thursday for sure to look once more at it with a friend. And I believe I'll bring me some benjamins to take it off his hands. He's had others look at it and they haven't bought it yet, so he'll probably go for the 1500
I'd buy it. Of course try and get him a better deal, but for 2 grand, I'd rock it. I bought mine in '07 for that much and mine's sohc and rustier than that, but I've put well over 50k miles on it with no major problems.

Oh my lol so not a bad price for a Lude then. Only thing that scares me is not knowing how long H23's last. I hear they wear down faster because of the longer stroke. I'm going to see if he would take it to get it inspected at a shop to find any problems majorly. If they don't find anything wrong that would cost a fortune ill take it. TrYp MyNe's PC will finally start to form :P

H23 will last like any other motor. It all depend how you drive and what you do with the car. Transmissions are usually the main priority anyways.
I have seen H23A1's with 350k miles on them and still running smooth. I have also seen ones with 100k on then that run like garbage.
If you do all the required maintenance it can last forever (oil changes on time, timing belt every 75k, flush fluids and refill new, air filter, tune ups etc)
I have a F22A1 with 208k on it. Runs just like a new car just broken in. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get the same out of H series. Take care of your car player!!!
