I think they are real. Everyone is real here. Even the DPs and PCs.

Maybe we should have a noob forum. Something where you have to post a certain number of times in a certain forum before you are able to post in the other forums.
I'll gladly offer my time to screen these new users........and I'm not talking about picking on idiots/ricers. I'm saying that I could (silently) check for spammers in this forum and delete any member accounts that are in violation.
This needs to be dealt with before the board becomes overrun with bots.
There are sites now that specialize in "acquiring targeted" traffic from forums. That is all they do. They go out and find forums that are ontopic to a customers needs and they carefully "spam" the forum to acquire link backs, name dropping, and often direct url dropping to bring back customers.
Some of the techniques they use:
- Tag teams. One or more agents will start and engage in conversations with each other to add credibility to a thread.
- Post count building. Often, agents will increase their post count, carefully contributing to the 'players' in a forum to beef up "nick recognition", and then slowly introduce a topic.
- Classic Q & A with themselves. forums that don't watch ip addresses real close often have agents that carry on conversations with themselves under two different nicks.
- Name dropping and whisper campaigns. Often they just drop the name of a product with "what do you think of product X". After awhile they come back and work in the url with some member saying, "oh ya, I've heard of them".
- Profile building. I know one company that targets a particular industry, that has two agents with over 50,000 posts around forums under their nicks. With all that posting, those two agents are now considered "experts" in their topic area - and they are nothing more than salesmen.
But they may be paid members. Whether you believe they are too 'stupid' to post or actually spamming the forums is up for discussion. Please PM any suspected spammers to any of the moderators and administrators and we will handle them appropriately.

I thought the tech forums were open to anyone? (unpaid members)
I'd be willing to bet money you won't see any of these members posting in the paid areas.
Refer back to the word may in my previous post. We've come to the conclusion that the spammers are not out of control and therefore it is not necessary to implement any new registration requirements. As far as moderating the forum goes, our mods currently are doing a great job and they don't feel the need to make any changes. As well, users may not be banned for idiocy, only for breaking the rules, which includes spamming and insistent violation of warnings that may have been issued to the user.
Big ups to Petern101 and all the other mods for their ongoing moderation of the technical forums.

Yeah, I caught the may after I'd already posted.
In regards to whether they're out of control or not, isn't it enough that they're here to spam at all?? What about the quote I posted from another forum? The three 'members' in question seem to be following the description quite closely.
I personally am not familiar with the members in question, but the moderators are well-informed on the situation, their names have been brought up in the mod forum, and the moderators will handle them accordingly.
