About the maintenance going on...

It seems like certain people are being effected more by the maintenance for others. I know of two instances, Scottman and SK Honda7, where I am browsing PO without any issues and they cannot browse the forums.

I figured that the maintenance would be forum wide, but that does not seem to be the case. Any ideas?

Ok, its definitely a problem with switching servers. When I ping www.preludeonline.com, I get 66.135.38.24 which, to my knowledge, is the correct information. However, the people who are timing out, are getting the old address, 209.251.16.10.

For the people having problems it says "This operation has timed out." When you try and access the site via the IP address, it says Bad Request (Invalid Hostname).

OK - so I've found out I can't access the site from my home computer, but I can at my work computer and my friends work computer. What can I do to make it come up on my computer at home, it just keeps timing out... I have a cable modem btw.

I was told either to wait until DNS updates or...

Make SURE that your DNS has updated to point to 66.135.38.24 -- that is
the new website. If not, try clearing your cache, and cookies, or rebooting your computer.

Didn't work for me, but it might for some or try this: http://www.updatexp.com/dns-windows-xp.html

Have them add this entry to their hosts file, it will manually tell their pc where PO is until the DNS can get updated.

66.135.38.24 preludeonline.com

C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc (Win2k)
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc (XP)
C:\windows (98 I think)

Search for a file named 'hosts' with no file type extension.
It should already contain:
Code:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
rinse, repeat, wipe hands on pants.

http://www.dnsreport.com/

PO has a few issues that may need to be resolved first also.
