Spraying w/ a bent valve

Well i've done the ccompression check like 10 times now and cylinder 3 is always like 150 and 4 is always like 180 while the other two are around 220. I realize this could mean my head gasket, but i think its my valves cause they are pretty loud at high RPMs sometimes. So what could happen if i spray on a bent valve?

you shouldn't even be driving on a bent valve let alone spraying. Only one way to find out though

You'll probably blow the motor whether your problem is the headgasket or the valves.

If you try, make sure someone films it!

I would never try it.

But I do feel that some of my valves must be slightly bent from the compression numbers and the rattling. I have checked the compression over the span of 6 months and it hasn't changed. I mean i don't see how i can F up the test in those two cylinders every time so it has to be right. But the car pulls wonderfully. Starts up every time, never hesitates, misfires or anything. Hell i even semi keep up w/ my neighbors modded E36 M3.

Anyways, how can spraying on a bent valve cause you to blow your motor? I can't seem to formulate the steps to destruction because if the motor runs fine now, a better intake of air and gas can't technically cause the valve to bend more.

more fuel and air=more power=more compression=more stress

more stress on heavily worn engine parts=broken engine parts

you have been driving with bent valves for 6 months? You should take better care of your car and take it to a mechanic....get it fixed

Currently working on a Lude with bent valves. Guy was driving it around for a long time with it making nasty noises and then I killed it. But, to answer yout question, slightly bent valves don't inhibit performance much, till they get real bad. The problem is pressure is escaping past the valve because it is incompletely closed. This pressure will destoy the valve over a period time. Add nitrous and the destruction will advance far more quickly!

try getting a valve adjustment, doesn't sound like they are bent. You would be having idling problems and strange noises all the time, especially a loud tapping at idle

i tried the valve adjustment and it didn't help at all. There is no idle problems aside from it being a little on the low side, but i think i need to adjust that myself. No tapping unless i'm above like 6k then there is like a metal stuff banging around kinda sound. Its very faint and sometimes i dont even hear it

Faint noise may be detonation. You running premium?

you might run a leakdown test and see what the results are. If the leakdown test comes back and doesn't vary much from cylinder to cylinder, then your problems are valve train related. You might want to find out what is causing the low compression, chances are it will be a lot cheaper to fix now than it will be when/if something fails.

Exactly, detonation can be silent or sound like BBs banging around in the motor.

i always run 93 octane...sometimes even 94 if the tank is bone dry and there is a sunoco near by. Why would i be detonating? I'm running I/H/E/Pullies/2.5" cat/OBDII workaround.

a wet compression test should help you narrow it down to the valves

You probably aren't detonating unless you accidently advanced the hell out of your distributor one day. Do a wet compression test, so you can figure out where the problem is.

its like at 600 roughly...i need a vafc to give you exact numbers. It holds the idle fine its just that ever since the pullies everything dims at idle and the idle seems a bit lower than it used to be.

laughin...i have a 5th gen so there isn't really any way for me to have advanced the timing. Any other ideas?

BTW I did drop a cap full of oil down into the cylinder and the compression stayed the same, so that eliminated it being the rings. Is that a wet test?

Yep. You could just pull the valvecover and inspect the valves. That way you'll know for sure what's up.
