Any ideas on making a purge quieter? I'm getting one installed Friday, and the plan is already involving running the line under the car, but I want to reduce the hiss of purging n2o.
Also, I'm getting a deal on some Honda/NTK 5-wire Wideband O2 sensors. If anyone wants me to pick them up one too, read this thread and give me a PM
I doubt you can make it quiter. I mean, that is just the nature of 1000 psi coming out a small opening. The only thing i can think of is to have a long purge tube, that gradually gets bigger. It would either make it quieter or amplify it....
Want it to be quieter to hide that I have it from other racers. Plus, in CA, a hooked up bottle = smog ref trip, and seeing (and recognizing) the system under the hood will just get me more scrutiny and likelyhood of getting tickets for whatever activity I was engaged in when the cops show up.
If you want stealth hide it all under the rain guard.. and run the purge line under your car... like you said.... if you really want.. get the larger copper tubing ( but even that makes noise... ) maybe you could drill a bunch of holes in it to vent more.... and try to route it back to the rear of the car.. as far back as possible.....I would say into the trunk area.. but I am not sure that is a wise idea.... purge when revving your engine to cover the sound... as far as smog... ( I live in CALI too this state sucks for laws ) make sure you wrap your jets and SS lines in that corregatued plastic tubing seen through out the engine bay... and they typically won't see or inspect that hard.

or you could just put your car in neutral (or clutch in), rev with it armed and have it spray a little. It won't be very loud and would clear the lines of air. I would however just purge, it doesn't take to long and is fun to watch.
all my lines are already wrapped in corrugated wire loom, and my microswitch is soon going to be replaced with a NX tps switch (if NX ever answers the questions I emailed about it).
maybe i can build a 'muffler' for it
jake, my current purge method is a quick 'test run' of the racing surface with the system armed. wouldn't be willing to try it in neutral, though.
jnkoh, purging before i got there was what i was probably going to do. i'm looking at the need for a possible emergency purge so i can disconnect the bottle if i get pulled over at the races. no connected bottle = less likely smog ref or impound.
referee. they painstakingly inspect your car.
not only must it pass tailpipe emissions, but they check the ecu for codes (even pending ones), make sure the check engine light works, make sure all your parts have CARB EO#s, and generally act like a pain in the ass.
It's nearly impossible to prove that nitrous was used. The WI DOT says that you can have nitrous as long as the bottle is closed so that it can't affect the driver. If you have a remote opener you can make sure that you bottle is closed whenever you run into a cop.
