I wanted to slap the solenoids under there, what's involved in pulling it off? Just removing the wipers? I've seen others mount their stuff in there, so I have to assume it stays dry enough in there for my purposes, correct?

Not sure about the 5th gens, but i just removed the wipers and the black snap on plugs and it came right out!

pull the wipers off, and then there will be some christmas tree plugs you have to pull. They are located under the black rubber molding at the front of the rain guard. I don't believe there are any bolts to pull, but don't quote me on that. Just don't force the rain guard out and you should be gold. It is kinda tricky to get the guard out from under the hood, but it will come out.

There are some clips that hold the rainsheild down close to the windsheild, no one ever seems to mention those. I dont know whats the best way to remove those, cause I didnt know about them, and they broke.

Yeah, you just take off the wipers. Then there are a bunch of clips holding the guard down. Just pull it up relatively gently so as to not break the clips and it comes right up. Doesnt take more than a couple minutes. good luck!
