Nitrous on high mileage motors?.... How bad?

Well, I'm still deciding what I wanna do to my car. I was going to order a J-spec motor w/ low miles, build it up a bit, then get nitrous, but I can't wait anymore. My question is that, I have almost 159,000 miles on my car, but I want to get nitrous now!! What would I need to replace/build, so that this "old" motor could withstand a shot of n2o (max.= 75 shot). Would it even be worth trying? I plan on building the head a little bit, then upgrading the fuel and ignition, but is there anything else? Would I need to replace certain gaskets, rings,etc? Thanks.

If it were my motor, and it had over 100k miles on it... I would NOT spray. But thats just me.

if (compression == ok()), mileageDoesntMatter();

Somebody should write this up in the faq. You might accellerate blowing a head gasket at insane mileage (200k), but that's going to happen anyhow.

I agree, do a compression check and if everything is fine, you are set to go. After that just follow the sticky, check you plugs, and use common sense and you should be fine.

Cool, thanks ya'll. I definately have a lot of things to think about. Thanks brandon, you're pretty cool yourself. Here's another thing I need to know. I just got a new clutch put in. It was an OEM replacement. If I ever spray more than a 55 shot, will I need to upgrade the clutch? I never plan on spraying more than a 125 shot.

I know that a stock clutch is good for a 50-60 shot, my friend has no problems with his. Anything more than that you will probably need to upgrade. Just to add to the mileage, my friend has 133k and I have 75k, no problems yet

What kind of car does your friend have? How large of a shot is he running, and what does he have done to his car? Just ignition/fuel upgrades? Any motor modifications?

133k 95 prelude Si

intake, exhaust, header, high-flow cat, pulleys, AEM fuel rail, AEM fuel pressure regulator. He is running a dry 50 shot. His fuel pressure is still set to stock.

On my b20a5, if I would spray a 60 shot regularly, would I need a FPR, fuel pump, etc.? Also, how much would I need to retard my timing?

If you go with a dry kit they increase the fuel pressure enough to cover basic bol-ons and the nitrous. The only time this gets thrown off is if you have your timing advanced or if you have a vafc(not a problem on your car). For a 60 I would retard the timing two degrees and get colder plugs. That is to be safe, wreckdiver had my kit before me and ran a 70 shot on stock plugs and timing with no problems. Every engine reacts differently so I'd just keep an eye on your plugs after the install since they will tell you what is going on better than anything.

It is in the sticky, which is why I'm locking this.
