That was either a big ass nitrous backfire or an exploded fuel line.....but it sounded like backfore. He must have been pushing a big shot on that vette

The fuel puddled in the intake manifold. When he went to squeeze, the ignition from the combustion chamber worked it's way back up the IM and that's when the explosion happened.

That is a nitrous backfire. I've seen it happen a few times on pro mod cars (I believe they run around 400-600 horse shot, in 3 stages) and it made a large boom. In fact, there is a nice fireball that comes out the hood scoop.

For our purposes it would be extremely rare for something like this to happen, since we aren't running a lot of nitrous.

Nope, wouldn't happen that bad to us. I had it happen when a solenoid hung open, scary even when mild, cause you KNOW something isn't right. I shut it right down, turned the engine off, pulled over and let it set awhile, before restarting. A big plus was having a remote way to shut it down.
