How Much Nitrous before....

How much nitrous can you spray before you would need to look into a engine management system like a Hondata? I know most people running a turbo with alot of boost need an engine management system, but you dont really here about to many people that run nitrous running anything more than a VAFC.

you dont need a hondata for a DP or a wet kit. for dry kit though, anything higher than 75 shot of nitrous, hondata s200 is a great addition.

right now im debating w/ myself on what to do: either go DP w/ some sort of nitrous controller or stick w/ the dry man. sys., add a hondata s200, and bigger injectors to compesiate for a bigger shot.

Nitrous is a little different in that all big shots are going to be wet. Fuel delivery isn't as big of a problem as it is on a turbo car, where you have varying amounts of boost and the injectors are providing all the fuel. Timing and the internals are the main areas of concern when running large amounts of nitrous.

Thats pretty much what I thought, but wasnt sure being that most people making big horsepower are using a turbo. So if a person wanted to make 300+ horsepower with nitrous, you would really only need an aftermarket ignition to adjust timing, maybe a high flow fuel pump to make sure fuel gets where it needs to be, and or course a built motor. Nitrous really is the most cost effective way to make big horsepower.

If you wanted to make more than 300+ whp you would need all that. IMO if your goal is to make that much power you would also have some aggressive cams, porting etc... In this case an engine management system would make sense. However most people choose nitrous since it is cheaper to make decent power and still be reliable, which the "reliability" threshold probably tops out at around 120 crank hp of nitrous.

300+ power on a stock 16-22% loss car is a CRAP load of power from squeeze. Axion68 is correct, reliability would top out around 100-125 hp. AND, this is IF you have all the management and goodies mentioned above. Boost it.

There was a Prelude SH in Honda-Tuning a while back that had a built engine, no headwork that I can remember, type-s cams, 150 shot of nitrous, and an aftermarket ignition. I dont know how much power he was putting down, but he ran 12's in the 1/4. If anyone wants to know exactly what issue that was, I can check when I get home.

June/July 2002 issue. Its my favorite issue, two sweet Prelude's in the issue. I love Honda-Tuning magazine, but it seems like the H-series motors get the least attention, and Prelude's get even less. Sure, you see a Prelude show car here and there, but most of them look like ass to. I wish they would look into the performance end of the Lude more, but it seems that lately they are so into the K series motors its sick. B and H series motors still are, and will continue to be the most viable option for most tuners.
