Emptying Nitrous Bottle

I am selling my nitrous, & I need to empty the bottle. Is it safe to just open the valve & let the nitrous out or do I need to go to a shop & have them recapture the nitrous?

You can let the nitrous out into the atmosphere, but be very careful. I did this one time and the damn bottle flew out of my hands. 1000 psi has a bit of a kick to it.

Well that was my mistake. I opened it slowly at first with no problem and then opened it up more. That's when I couldn't control it. If you open it slowly it won't be a problem.

Also automotive nitrous has a certain percentage of sulfur in it. Try not to inhale it.

Empty it outside, it stinks a lil cause of the sulphur.

Just open the bottle a half turn or so from where you start venting gas and walk away for 10 minutes. FYI: The bottle's going to be cold as hell right after it vents, so you might wanna let it sit for a bit longer so it doesn't freeze your fingers.

I opened the bottle today slowly. But it seems nothing came out. I couldn't smell anything or see anything. I got the bottle filled but never used it. So I know there is nitrous in there. Could the seal have broken, or could the valve that opens the bottle not be working?

Just make sure the bottle isn't at 1200psi and only open the bottle halfway.

Weigh the bottle. Check if there is any nitrous in there.

I usually empty my bottle at 3lbs and freeze it overnight for a better fill. My shop *****es i fthe bottle is at 80+ psi and I want them to fill it. They freeze it, shake it, then fill some more, complaining the time the charge me $1.00 per pound so I take the abuse.
