Clutch last longer if I start spray in 2nd?

Just wondering how to get the most out of my stock clutch. I am not looking forward to putting a new clutch in my SH, but I will be spraying by the end of the week. My question is, If i activate in 2nd instead of before the race, does that save significant clutch life?

also... how long has you guys's stock clutch lasted you? I've heard around 5000 miles.

thanks a lot.

sam

Your clutch should be fine on a 50 shot or so. You should be hitting it after you hookup, so you wont be beating on it too bad. The power its pushing is what will kill it.

i wouldn't run it till 3rd or 4th gear anyway, for the extra push at the end, and spray around 3500 or 4000 so that you get the best effect out of it, and it'll save your clutch too.

really? i've never used it in anything other than some civics and my 3rd gen, it works better at the end of the run in those cars.

The earlier you spray, the more it helps. Even if you spray for 1 or two gears it is best to spray early. If you spray in first and second it will help you out until the end of the track where as if you spray in the later gears it will only help you where you began to spray.

But wear on my clutch will be worse in 1st from what I hear. I care more about saving my clutch for about 8 more months than my times.

I'm not sure if it is harder on any gear. You will spin more in the lower gears so that should help the clutch, but who knows if it is easier on it. If you are worried about your clutch back your shot size down.

spraying in first is no harder than any other gear. A clutch slips and things because of the power its holding.....

i used to spray in first with no wear problems on the clutch. I spray in 2nd gear now tho because my tranny locks me out if i spray in first. after reading thru the forums im not the only one who has the problem after spraying for awhile.
