I know this is off topic, but the nitrous forum is slow to reply.. and I need a fast answer...
I have a 98 SS with 45k miles... AEM CAI, exhaust, and pullys... I just put my Zex kit on last night, and I have the 65 shot pills in.... now someone told me I needed to put the 55 shot pills in until I get an ignition and retard the timing... but lots of people told me that its just as safe with a 65 as a 55....
i would just shoot a 55 shot till you get use to it.
You need colder plugs. www.nipponpower.com sells the NGK 1 step colder plugs. You need them if you want to be safe. you don't necessarily hafta retard timing. My friend's been running a 55 shot on his SI for almost a year now w/o any probs with just colder plugs.

So am I safe on a 65?
I have to know before I leave work... (in 20 minutes)

You should be fine. Just never spray in first gear, especially w/ your SS. or else kiss your torque converter goodbye.

Ive only sprayed twice, like I said I got it in this AM at like 3... so I did 1 test run.. and then once today at lunch....
Anyway.. this is how I do it...
From a dead stop, I floor it, when It gets to 7k rpm I shift, as soon as Im in 2nd I arm the nitrous, then it sprays, I shift to 3rd, I leave it armed all the way through third, and then disarm it as soon as I get in 4th... is that right?
65 should be fine since you have colder plugs. I have heard the rule of thumb is that you should shoot 1/3 of your horsepower safely. and 65 is a little under 1/3 your horsepower.

I appreciate everyone's replys.... Looks like im going to stick with the 65 shot
On my way home from work I found my first race since I had my bottle... none other than the one of the only other hooked up ludes in town... its the dark green and he has a lot of the same mods I do.. so people always think we are each other... pisses me off... anyway... we went from like a 70 roll.... were dead even of course, then I flipped the little red switch.. and bye bye....
We pulled over at the store a little ways up, and he said 'Man I wish I had a 5 speed your car is so much faster than mine...'
I said 'Sports Shift too buddy..' He goes 'jesus your **** is QUICK!'

Amazing how that works. You should retard your timing a degree or two if you want to be completely safe, but you shouldn't cause any real damage with stock timing a a 65 shot.
How about timing with the 75 shot? I've got colder plugs, stock ignition and stock timing. I've only used the bottle a few times and followed all the rules. Is the only way to retard timing through an aftermarket ignition with the 5th gen?

Couldnt you just rotate the distributor clockwise a bit? Im looking into getting NOS and would like to put off getting an ignition for a while if possible, but still want to take at least some precautions. I cant afford a new motor.
